Web hosting
Hi all, I wasn't sure where to post this....it's not really a review question but anyway! I am looking to start building a website and am wondering if anyone has advice on what company to go through to host the website? I am looking for something cheap if possible but also one that doesn't take ages to load, particularly seeing as lots of photos will hopefully be up there. Help? Don't even know where to start!

Re: Web hosting
I'm no expert but I use Yahoo Small Business. Have been there for over 6 years now. It runs around $12 month - not sure if you consider that cheap or not... ?
Re: Web hosting
I use Homestead and it works great for me. Easy to build a site (no HTML necessary) and has a nice traffic data program. I get 5 pages for $8.99 per month (including the domain and free email) IIRC.
Re: Web hosting
I get more than 5 pages with Yahoo... not sure how many but I think I'm over 20 at this point. Yahoo has templates, the program is called PageBuider, publishes instantly, includes the domain and multiple emails. I can edit it anywhere anytime... just have to log into Yahoo.
Re: Web hosting
ok, thanks guys. there are so many out there, it's a bit overwhelming!

Re: Web hosting
I am redoing my website, we moved and I decided to find a name I could take with me anywhere in the country and not have to worry about having the same or similar name to another painter. (my husband is military so we move every couple of years)
Previously I had Yahoo Small Business, which I liked. Easy to use and navigate. I think I had seven or eight pages.
Photos are easy to import and add. They also have a tool so you can monitor traffic to your site.
Right now I am looking at Godaddy. Anyone use them?

Re: Web hosting
I use webs.com ... it's free. They have templates you can use and it's really easy to do those, but I use a free program called kompozer and upload the html files to webs instead of using their templates. I pay for my domain name, but hosting is free.
Re: Web hosting
I use wix also. I bought my domain name and I do an invisible link to it. It doesn't help with google rating so I am going to upgrade to use my domain without the link. I think the rate was 4 something a month for the upgrade.
Re: Web hosting
I was looking around at some of the sites mentioned here and went to Homestead.
It looks like they no longer include the domain and email, you have to upgrade to a $23.99 plan to get it. I liked how the pages and set up looked, until I came to that part.
Will keep looking.

Re: Web hosting
I'm a big geek, so I bought my domain name + hosting at www.hostpapa.ca.It's in Canada and they offer both service in english and french.
Oh, and I love the fact that they have green hosting. (Energy made out of substainable energy) But that's just me! :p
I once got hosted on Godaddy, but their servers were often down. In a year, I think it went down at least 4 or 5 times. (And that's when I noticed it!)
So, say no to godaddy! :p
And I use the Wordpress.org platform. Love, love Wordpress!
