Intresting Question

Post by silverdragon19th on Mon Sep 26, 2011 11:12 am

OK, I volentered at a event this year, I was not face painting, we had a face painter there so I introduced myself saying I am new to face painting. She said "oh its you the vampire lady told me about you." I was like really, see I will be face painting for that lady in Oct for her event. We only talked for a min. She told me that I have to have a insurance which makes since and I am in the process of getting some, and she said I needed a cosmetic licence. Is that true? I have not read it anywhere that you need that.
Every one says that she did that to discourage me so I would not work the event next year which I am still thinking about doing. I know she will be back next year I saw her turn in her money for her reserved spot. She is from out of state so I dont know why she would do this she would not be compition any other time. This was the first time we had a face painter there.

Thanks
Michelle

you don't need to have a cosmetology license for face painting anywhere as far as I know. Insurance is definitely recommended, but only required if the event that you are working asks for it. It is more for your protection than anything else.

Where I am you don't need a cosmetic license. If I went and tried to get one for face painting, they'd probably look at my like I had lobsters crawling out of my ears.

I used to have my cosmetology license (back when Moby naughty word was a minnow), and I never remember hearing that it was needed for face painting. In fact, I'm not sure I ever heard you needed one to do makeup....but it's possible. Anyone else know?
(I can't believe the word d.i.c.k. was edited out, for Moby D. Geeze)!

You don't need a cosmetology license to face paint. I don't where she got that from? Does she do something other than facepainting???? that might require it?

She was telling you a load of you know what. In some states, you need a cosmitician's liscense to do make up, but that is more like a permit, you pay the fee and that is that, kind of like a fishing liscence. What you need would also depend on your State, so if she is not from your state, how would she know? Do a search of KY requirements, but I doubt you need anything like that. She was trying to discourage you. How sad for her that she feels the need to do people that way.

Insurance is good for you in so many ways. Your customers will feel more secure with you, and you can feel more secure with yourself, it is protection you really need, and it is not that expensive. What could happen to you without it is a whole lot more expensive!

In Ohio, I had to file with the State for my business, and I needed that Tax ID number to open a checking account. I am sure that you can operate a business without both, but I would recomend that you get them.

Well I did the "vampire ladies" event today. It was not a good turn out but I made my booth money back and a little more. I have more connections now, I asked the woman about what the girl said to her. She said "Yeah she told me about the cosmetics licences thing but I ignored her". I was so afraid that that girl had did some kind of damage to our relationship, but the woman/ owner of the mini con said that if I ever need help with promotions she would help me. I had looked the girl up on-line, she is good, and she is going for a masters degree at the college I graduated from, but I wont give her the time of day since she done this. I will see her next year at Scarefest. In this situation I am tenacious I buckle down and work for the best. I am just floored that she would even do this not knowing me. I had wanted to do the con befor but could never get the money together in time.

In KY, check with your city and county regarding a license. It varies from city to city, county to county. No state license.

I recommend insurance. It isn't that much and is there to protect you. Most corporate gigs will require it.

Good luck!
