Heather,

I think what you have is quite nice and I may have to steal, I mean borrow, a version of it for my next printing!

I like ALL those designs Lone... really effective and slick looking!!!

I don't have any children on my business card either... all adults. It's easier not to use minors on permanent marketing materials.

I hope to meet you next summer! I plan to go back again, I'm carpooling this time instead of flying, it'll be cheaper and it's only a 12 hr drive. Make sure you apply for the scholarship, they made a lot on the auction this year so they should be giving out quite a few of them.

That sounds great!! I was actually in Indiana all summer from June to August, so it wouldn't have worked out anyway. But, yes, scholarships are what I'm all about there...when I told my husband the price, he almost choked on his salami, but a scholarship might do nice---MEN--they don't know what it's all about--at least the NON clowning men that is. Thanks!

Lone- All of your designs are awesome!!! You are a Seeboden World Body Painting award winner! Would it be considered bad form mentioning that on your card somewhere by European standards? Maybe suggest all the types of events you do or a tagline if you have one.

I guess I like the first one from a business standpoint of showing all the different types of "art" you provide. I would use your scary face (it is you and that makes it more cool) as the first tile. Your glamour face/gold leaf face as the 2nd. Your henna as the 3rd. The art glass/dove body paint as the 4th tile. Your wolf hand as the final tile (finishing with the wolf emphasizes your name!).

- traditional facepainting
- glamour makeup
- body makeup and art paint/gestational
- henna (maybe add one of those in)
- hand painted tattoos

If I had to pick one, I would pick the one with your hand howling at the moon - That to me is the most striking. The colours are more intense too with the pumpkin and the UV. And that hand wolf really ties in with your name.

I did not win in Seeboden? But I have won the Danish bodypainting championship. It is written on my homepage (when it will work again!). Thought about write what I do and to what type of events, but people rarely read anything, and I would have to write it really small - and therefore hard to read for some - to have it all. So I chose to have pictures instead.

On each card I have tried to have a broad selection of each with facepainting, temporary tattoos / bodypaint and makeup. I chose not to have special effects on, since I rarely work with that. And I have just stated doing henna, so don't have so many pictures (plus don't think the marked is so big).

Ended up ordering a banner with each design, since they didn't cost that most =)

Thank you for all your feedback!

Here is my first draft of a postcard and business card front only. Name and number is on the back. Any thoughts? [img][/img]

I'd say to go with something less colorful for the background so the pictures get all the attention.

I just picked one of my best and made it half of the front side of the business card. Very attention getting.

it's going to be really hard to see those pictures on a business card Debbi, I'd pick one or two good ones and just put those a little bigger.

Debbi, I have to agree ... that is too busy, the images too small, and the contrast between background and photos is not enough.

Try to choose your BEST 1 to 5 faces only and make THEM the focal point.

And try to separate your website text from the black line drawings... for eyes that blur (like mine) it all runs together.

You can use all those photos on a postcard - make them larger though.

Just realized I haven't posted mine yet.... this is the one I'm using right now although the balloon picture is a little too dark so I'll be switching things around a little with my next card order.

Thanks for the lookies'. Sometime I get to close to it to see things correctly. I tested to background in a test group and it has very high marks so, I am going to keep it. The pictures you are right - too many, too small. I mocked up a new one really fast. Please comment again. Got to go to work.

Tested to a background in a test group?

I think that if you kept your faces more uniform: all ovals or all squares or something like that, it would look cleaner.

I'm not really sure what you mean with the testing thing, but while I can tell they are children's faces, I can't see the painting... that's what you're advertising so I think you might want to tone down the background colour a little and take the pictures into photoshop and brighten the colours of the paintings a little.

The testing thing - my husband's work has test groups. People who come in and give opinions or try new products, stuff like that. Out of all the backgrounds I submitted, this background had the highest consumer response. It could be a midwest thing. The people out here liked it the best. I also have it as the background on the website now. (Almost complete). I will try the photoshop idea on my next break. Thanks for the quick feedback! I love the comments. Anything else, please do not hesitate, I consider it all very helpful!!! Thanks, Debbi

Re: Business Cards!

Post by Guest on Tue Sep 29, 2009 12:50 pm

Did you test just the background itself or with the stuff over top of it?

It may have appealed to people - it is pretty, but, to get attention with a business card you need to be more graphic and get the focal point to be what people see... the background is still too bright and overpowers your images.

If you have full face designs in bright bold colours that show up against that background (like bright green/blue/purple) that would balance it more, but your designs are more delicate and still hard to see.

It is a great background but maybe take it down in brightness - make it pastels or fairly transparent for use with your cards and printed material.

Ultimately it is YOUR choice... but you do want the customers to see your work, then your contact information - the background is just window dressing.

Re: Business Cards!

Post by Rosenberg-Cox on Tue Sep 29, 2009 1:34 pm

It was just the background for the website and a postcard. I love everyones' ideas. I lightened the background and cropped it. I have cut the number of pictures and made them all the same shape. I also brought out the web address with a box. I think those where the suggestions I received so far. I am unsure about the actual photos I picked but my drawing program allows me to replace them easily. I am still going to work on that (but not while at work). It will be a tonight activity.

This is what I did over lunch. Again, please comment. [img]

Was the test group WITH your photos? It's not that the background is bad. It's a pretty background. It just just detracts from the face painting, which is what you want to advertise.
