Crappy at roses!
Hi every one!
I was just wondering if any one can point me in the right direction when it comes to painting the beautiful roses I see in all your lovely designs! I have found what i want to be able to paint its posted below! but every time i do it i just end up blending the colour! I know its done on paper so its a bit easier, but if any one has any rose designs they could show me I would much appreciate it!

Re: Crappy at roses!
Watching Donna Dewberry videos would be my suggestion. I still need work on my roses, but I don't get much requests for them anyway

Re: Crappy at roses!
I am still not great at them. One thing I did learn from watching the videos tho, is that you lay your first layer down, then go do something else so that it has time to dry. Then come back and lay in the top layer. I think the one your showing has more layers than most I have seen on here. Good luck!

If there is one thing I learned from a class on one stroke roses I took, it's that for some of us, doing roses on paper is worse (and far harder) than on skin.....
I love this video for roses and leaves and go back to it over and over....

Re: Crappy at roses!
Belley, have you looked at the tutorial that goes with the rose picture you posted? It's not a video but it's one of the best step-by-steps for roses.

Wow that Video is amazing! I think i will have to watch it over and over to get it, but its very helpful Thank you. Isabelle i looked at that tutorial and i tried it over and over on a face and I just couldn't get it, as soon as i did it on paper it worked! maybe the design is more for folk art than for face painting. I will post some pictures once i get around to doing them! thanks every one for you suggestions! I think waiting for it to dry is they key!
Happy roses and fairy sparkels to every one!

Owww, and don't you just love the picture of the little parakeet in the beginning??? So adorable!
Re: Crappy at roses!
The hardest part i had with roses was getting the petals to look like petals, then i figured out that the smallest twist out then in with the brush gave it the turned out look, its always hard to see that part in the vids (for me anyway)

Re: Crappy at roses!
Get one of Donna Dewberry's One Stroke Roses Workbook and practice the strokes over her worksheets on an acrylic clear sheet provided with the book. Practice is to train the eye & hand to produce results. OS is much easier using face paints ; D

Make sure you are using non blending paints like DFX as used in above photos - easily blendable paints like snaz below don't produce as definite petal seperation as DFX does. The leaves were done with DFX & this was the last rose I painted with Snaz.

Cheers,
Susan

Re: Crappy at roses!
i have a free u tube on roses at the silly farm site
i made the u tube when the arty cakes first came out...so, it's a couple years old now
it's a different rose than donna's...smaller
i think it fits little faces better.
it's the same rose as in this picture
the second picture is tattoo rose, i also have a free u tube at SF on it
