In Need of Help!

Post by melissaPins on Tue Oct 04, 2011 3:39 pm

I知 recently getting back into face painting again after taking a few years off to help out family. I am in desperate need to make a little extra money to support my 13 year old brother. He was placed with me at the beginning of the school year because of the bad living situation my parents are in. Now I知 26 years old and have a child to take care of its been a very bumpy ride.

I scraped up a very small budget and Metina helped me over the phone pick out a few basics. She was amazing and I am so sincerely great full. I can honestly say no one has ever shown me such kindness.

I知 posting here to ask If anyone has any extra supplies they might be able to spare for someone who is truly in need. Literally anything will help! I知 not sure how we would work out shipping but please let me know if you have any ideas.

Thank you all so much for listening

Melissa.

pm me your address. I have a few things I don't use (attempts at making a split cake that I didn't end up liking, extras I'll never use, a brush or two). My trash may be your treasure. Don't worry about the postage, I'll cover it. It's not much, but every little bit adds up.

God Bless,

Im sorry to hear about your troubles. I have chronic lyme disease that put me out of work and has left my husband the only one working two jobs and we are struggling also. You seem to be a kind person and to take in your little brother to make his life better is a wonderful thing. This is a situation where I wished I was doing better because I would love to help. I do collect bottles and containers and things for say storing or cleaning brushes or items that can be used as brush stands to jars for holding sponges etc. I just hate to throw out things that could have a use. Please PM me if you may be interested in any of my odd little recycled collection of "things"

Absolutely! PM me your address. Will send stuff. Glitter, sponges, brushes, etc. I'm sure I have some "extra" paint here and there too. I started out with a very small "kit" (3 sponges, a few brushes, a plastic cup, and a small 8 color sample pallet). Then I invested part of my earnings back into the business a little at a time, and built it up sooner than I thought I would.

I can relate to what you are facing in life. I've been in your shoes. My sister was 12 and I was 24 with two of my own babies when she came to live with me. It was a very challenging time for all of us. May God bless you and your home.

I'm sure I have plenty of sponges, paints, brushes, glitters that I don't and won't use. I just gave away an entire snaz palette and a bunch of split cakes to a student as a "practice kit". Nevertheless, PM me your address (you might just want to post it) and I will send all that I can. You're actually helping me out! What better cause than to help another sister of the art? Miracles and Blessings, girl!

If you are still in need of help, please send me a private message with your address and what kind of stuff you still need. Also, if there is anything beyond face painting supplies, anything else you need- I'll help if I can.

Just curious... Has anyone heard back from Melissa? I made an offer, but haven't heard from her. Just wondering if she got her needs met or if maybe she went in another direction?

I was wondering the same thing. I have an extra rainbow cake that I could mail but I didn't see her respond to the thread.

I'm going to sound like a jerk here, but I'm totally irritated by this request. "Hello, here's my sob story- give me stuff." This forum is so full of open hearts, and it just feels like someone trying to take advantage of all my friends' generosity. Evil or Very Mad There has been more than $100 worth of product offered to a girl who can't really even bother to even introduce herself. I have an Idea- let's send our goodies to Melody instead, who also has a sad story and also contributes to this community! Seriously. Melody pm me YOUR address.

I am new to the forum but I wanted to let you know I don't think you sound like a jerk at all. I totally see your point. There are many giving people here on this forum and were so ready to help her out not even knowing her and I dont see one reply she ever made. Now I am not trying to sound like a jerk but I do find it a bit rude. We all are going through life problems and just replied to another member who is dealing with the same issues I am and found it is what brought us both to face painting but I wouldn't ever have the nerve to ask you guys I don't know yet for handouts. I check the swap shop often and put ads out locally for used supplies and such so I know I will eventually get the things I need. I also was a little shocked she didnt even offer to pay for shipping. Please dont think I am being mean but I wanted to Geekophile's post and let her know she wasn't the only one who found the original post a little shocking. BTW I even offered her some things that weren't paints or brushes but other things for organizing her supplies and she never responded. oh well my .02 It is nice to know thought that hopefully I will get to know such caring and sweet people on this forum in time as my skills grow. Sorry for any off topic banter.

Thankgod you beat me to the post geekophile! first i will say that all you people who were willing to donate seriously you are angles!! i was a little shocked myself when i read the post, this is why i never responed seems im not a very giving person. dont get me wrong i most likley would of caved in if she responed and gave her what i could, but for the fact that she didnt bother, im kinda glad i didnt waste my time.
we all started out with nothing! every single one of us.. we all have our stories, we have all had to save our pennies for facepaints to help bring in extra cash. we are all doing it hard at times.
honestly if i was in the same position i would not waste my time trying to set myself up as a face painter, it takes so much time, effort and money. i would just go out there and get a regular paying job with consistant hours and pay.
I feel sorry for the people who are in these situations seriously i do. but we all do it hard at times. its the true support, kind words, and advice from this forum that gets us through not the handouts.

Re: In Need of Help!

Who knows why she hasn't communicated back? Rude? Immature? Computer crashed? A tragedy? We really do not know.

Life has thrown me for a loop a time or two when I have been sent reeling into orbit for a time, getting disconnected in a lot of ways until my feet hit solid ground again. Some things happen in life that we do not foresee, nor can we even fathom it when it happens. Some things cannot be avoided. Sometimes we lose touch for awhile...

Like the time my fiance was murdered in his bed and I was getting miffed because I had not heard from him while he lay there undiscovered for 5 days. (an 11 year old unsolved murder case)

Or the time I got a call while sitting in class at college telling me my 15 year old son had just been arrested for armed robbery. (he's still in prison today)

Or this summer when our dear friend's son was run over by a semi-truck and killed while skateboarding just a few blocks from here.

Or the time...

Life is just really hard sometimes. And once in awhile, it makes sense that one "disconnects" while they are being hurled through the storm.

Just sayin'. Anything is possible here.

oh wow manja.. you really have had it tough. Sad
you should be extremely proud of yourself for being a strong person, it may have not come to you as soon as you may have needed it but wow i take my hat off to you.
things do just happen in life and there is not alot we can do about these things but accepting them and moving on is prob the best thing we can do, ur past might suck but theres no reason you cant make the future rock! and you are already doing that, your work is amazing, and your putting a smile on a face who might just of needed it that day. ur an insperation.

I was thinking something similar....you never know what may have happened. That being said, I was kind of waiting for a reply back with an address or more information. I know that I was able to get a lot done with a rainbow cake and black and white! Maybe she'll come back.

I don't know her but I do business in her area and pay for all of my own supplies. As many of you have experienced, new artists pop up all the time. She is my competition if she is doing business in Cape May/Atlantic county NJ. So I asked around and no one has heard of her. I'm not saying she doesn't exist. I'm just confused. I know of many face painters that I have never met all over New Jersey. Maybe we all should utilize the swap shop more if we have extra things we don't use. I'd love to try those green sponges everyone raves about. I have some ABCs I've never used that I would gladly trade. I'm just saying Smile
