What the heck is going on with me?

On Saturday last week I had a pimple on my upper lip, no biggie I kept touching it while we where riding the horses in the for 4 hrs and it was really sore on Sunday, by Tuesday it has really swollen, Wendsday morning my upper lip was inside out and my left side of my face was huge and swollen my lip hurt so much that I couldn't eat or sleep, went to the Doctor got on antibiotics, got up Thurday and it was worse went back to the Doctor and they put me on a second antibiotic and pain meds, and told me to prepare for surgery on Monday if it wasn't any better!! WTH? no way! So Sunday night I took a sterile syringe and opened it myself and by Monday it was a normal size and had stopped hurting. So a week on antibiotics the area where it was is red but healing and I learned keep my dirty hands off my face!
Yesterday I get a call a 6:00 in the morning from my friend who's out of state for the Navy and has been for 3 months, that the lady she hired to feed the horses called because her foal "Prince" he's 3 yrs old is down and colicing, asked me to get him to the vet. So I get my truck to start after a battle get the trailer hitched and realize I'm almost out of gas. Went to get the poor boy and he would not get in the trailer 45 mins of coaxing and he finally loaded, I still had to get gas with my last 20.00 get to the Vet tell them he's empacted and colicing and they... are you ready for this nightmare? waited 5 hrs to look at him. Almost 8 hrs before they started treatment, but this is where she wanted him! I could have taken him to my Vet and they would have started as soon as I got him out of the trailer.. those hrs of doing nothing may have been a life or death sentence, When I finally left there 8+ hrs later and had to leave him he may or may not make it. I am angry and sad and top it all off...I wrenched my shoulder loading him and couldn't sleep because there was no comfortable position.
okay feel better typing all that...
So over the course of my long very bum numbing day I was talking to the Vet about being sick and still on antibiotics and guess what? there is a strain of Staph that horse's carry and that is resistiant to most antibiotics, out of 100 Vets tested 90% of them tested positive for that strain, he gave me the article and told to really wash up after handling the horses...
GREAT! yet another thing to deal with!

just got a call from the Vet, he's up and he's pooped! and he ate! I can go get him and bring him home! Thank you God! this has been a rough road to deal with and he's not even mine

Infections are scary. I hope you get the right meds. I was just looking at a salve in Walmart yesterday that says it's to prevent staph and mrsa in scrapes and cuts...your story makes me want to go buy it.

I'm glad you & the horse are both doing better. Staph is not to be messed with.

Oh man, that sucks. I once got an infection in my face so bad my whole face swelled up and my eyes couldn't open. I had to spend the night in the hospital. They pumped me full of the strongest broad spectrum antibiotics they had through IV. It finally was better enough to go home with a prescription for oral antibiotics (strongest possible.) It kept coming back and apparently, the infection was living in my nostrils. Finally my GP gave me a cream to put in my nostrils to kill it. It all started from possible strep throat, a cold sore and impetigo in my lip. Oh, it was so bad!!!!! I'm glad you were able to take care of it!

Ack, what a week. Staph infections are such a pain...literally! Here's to hoping things settle down for you.
