Eeeek! evil Clown face??

Post by MonsterKat on Sun Oct 23, 2011 8:11 pm

I have my first ever adult who wants to PAY me to paint their face for a Halloween party...he wants to be an 'evil clown' and I'm kinda nervous! He sent me a pic of him a couple years ago painted as a clown (more scruffy than scary, painted by a professional he said, looked pretty good to me!) he said he was really happy with it but wants something a little more evil this year...If anyone has any tips for this kinda face I would appreciate it!!! and is there anything I can do to make the paint stay longer through a party?
I'm so nervous the guy won't be happy with what I do...although I HAVE said upfront that I'm new to this Smile

Purchase a setting spray - or alternatively use strong hold hairspray - some people do not want to spray people in the face with hairspray but we all know we cop it in the face anyway when we do our hair.

This is an evil clown I did a while ago on me it is inspired by Lone Wolf's entry in the snaz contest.

It's all easy except the teeth take aaaages!

Where would you find a face paint setting spray? I could have used that on my wolf! Im thinking of keeping a small kit of paradise to use just for adult party things, or body painting if it comes up. I think it will smudge less and work longer than my snaz/tag combos. But the spray sounds like a better option...couldnt find it in the forum shop?

Please I would like some info on a setting spray. I had seen on FABATV to use cheap hairspray....but I didn't see where it did anything...of course I was working in 99 degree heat.
Some one else suggested I use a setting powder and put it on before I paint designs in the heat. Anyone have info to share? Smiles...

I have the Merhon settg powder and really it's just a antipersperant in powder form. ... I have tod people to put it on under the paint but really it's only minimal help.... it's realy made to set grease based make-ups.

I have the BenNY setting spray - it smells minty fresh.... but doesn't always come out as a fine mist so I have to spray from afar - a lot - to get good coverage without reactivating the paint/make-up.
as far as I know it really helps to stop smudging and reactivation - but I haven't tried it personally yet... I will this weekend so I will let you know.

The hairspray works - but I cannot recommend spraying a child in the face with it.

Lone Wolf does one of the scariest clowns I've ever seen:

Not very evil but I did a clown tonight. He wanted more menacing rather than "scary" which was good because I think I would have died if I'd had to paint teeth on his beard! I thought I was moving along at a pretty good pace but it took me a little over an hour. Yikes! I only charged $30...thought it would take me a 1/2 hour. I thought it turned out pretty well.

I'm posting my horrible "sketch" on myself...what a mess. I watched a Wolfe Brothers class on FABA and it helped with the shading/lines so I guess this would serve as a good before and after. Smile

Thanks for the pics everyone, very helpful!!

Denise...I did a 'sketch' on myself last night...did not turn out the way I wanted at all but at least it was a learning experiance, lol I need help with the shading/lines too and doing teeth is definitely not my strong point! Razz

MommaKat...the eyes are really cool though, you've got those down...(dang teeth!)

I used a little tan/flesh color to shade, you can't really see it on the photo but it really helped add depth and a more "skeleton" look to it.

When I did the line work I wiped the #1 brush on a towel until there was barely anything there and it worked really well.

Good luck!

I did a latex/gel/tissue blister (a la Shannon Fennell!) but used a mixture of gel/vaseline and added a bit of yellow dye...I thought it would look a little extra gross! The guy DID say he wanted something that would stand out compared to his last years face, lol I thought adding some 'EWW!' would at least make my paint job look a little more satisfactory Smile
