So proud of my new display!

Post by SamFantastico on Fri Nov 11, 2011 4:30 pm

We've been talking about them, now let's see them!
This is the first display I made. Super fast printed out photos on a trifold board and covered with clear tape in case of rain.

Just bad.

And the second is similar only we tried to put more decorations in it.

The hand written titles really takes away from it. Ew.

We wised up to try something more permanent.

Note to all: velcro does not stick to felt. Laminated photos this time. Still not what we wanted.

FINALLY!
]
Pvc pipe marine vinyl, laminated photos and velcro. It's amazing! We can change out designs and things we offer as much as we like without building something new every time.

For the base we filled a bucket with concrete and laid plastic jewels and coins in the concrete as it dried so we wouldn't be stuck with ugly grey rock.

SO EXCITED!
What's your least/most favorite signage you've done?

I like that you put the prices on each picture so no confusion. I do like the full sized pictures...I think they'll attract a lot of attention.

Yeah it gets real old saying "Its such for this and such for this and such for this."

Love the sign, but how heavy is the bucket??
I think I will try it but with a different stand, maybe more like the one that was on this site before. I'll post if it works out.

Nice progression of signage! I too have had my fair share of frustration in the menu department. I can only post my first and last as I don't have any good pics of the inbetweens...and I'm not done yet, I plan on making a banner of my work for a menu eventually.

So here's the first one, it's just a word menu (and actually it's not the TRUE first, I had the matted cardstock pieces pinned to a bulletin board at first, but that only lasted one gig and the foam core board was SO much lighter!).

This is the last one I used, pics that I edited to look like polaroids and added the title and price then cut out and laminated, mounted randomly on a large foam core board. It worked well zip-tied to my tent pole, but a lot of wind left the foam core too damaged and I'm gonna have to remake it on a new board.

I really LOVE your PVC "Sail" look on your latest...I may have to try that one. I think maybe if you made something like the bottom of the banner stand that lots of people on here use, you could probably make it even lighter.

I still hate mine... It's heavy & quite ugly Very Happy
But, I rarely use a picture board, so it's never been a top priority on my list(I also hate my photos 'cause they're very old).

I am always envious of people who have good pictures of all their stuff! I have so few pics...good ones anyway. I get busy, and my best work just walks off uncaptured. I use a board that I don't really like right now, small faces, painted on paper, but they are working for now.

I really want pictures of my paintings...my line manager husband is just not going to cut it in the photo department. May have to break down and do something else. Seems like so much work to get the pictures.

Yours looks great Sam! Where did you get the vinyl, and did you sew it? I love how neat it is. Very good job!

I wish we could get photos of the kids we paint. There is never enough time to snap some. So the display photos are all of myself, the other painter, and my boyfriend, the caricature artist.

I worked at JoAnns for about 3 years so I knew they had good vinyl. Marine vinyl stands up to the elements which is needed in one minute sunny then hurricane attack Florida. Sewing it would be the better option but I had a hissy fit when the needle broke off and hit me in the arm. (I realize now that the needle, though the strength I needed, was not secured properly in place in the machine. Duly noted.) So instead we used grommets. It's like a hole puncher for fabric with a small metal round that secures the rims so the fabric doesn't tear.

About the weight of the base: It's made of a 50lb bag of concrete before it was mixed so now it's a few pound heavier. A lighter base is not possible for us because of the sail design. If the wind caught it in a lighter base, it would be blown around and knocked down all day. So we deal with the weight and thank goodness it stays upright.

Those are some great displays. I still have to figure out mine. have my fatmax painted, my awning painted, my chairs painted and most of my setup is a thumbs up...but still working on a display board. as for pictures. I would say It take about 10 to 15 seconds to snap a picture of my work. i have the camera sitting right there, i let them look in the mirror, they usually smile, Thank goodness!!!...and i have the camera in my hand by then, and say can i take your pictue?...which is a 100 percent YES!...and that is how i even keep track of how many people i paint that event!...once it is your Habit...the picture taking just becomes part of your routine!...i have my choices of faces in a baseball card size picture in an album...for them to look at...with a number...then i have the picture on a key ring...baseball card size for me.....But i do want a large display...just to attack attention ...thanks for the ideas!!!!!

Monna, that pictures-on-a-key ring idea is terrific. I may have to try that one.

Wow! That key ring idea is pretty rad! The way you photograph too is a good idea but I'm always too nervous to ask for a picture. A super great way to keep track of the painting count especially when there are 2 painters and we split the profits.
