The words I didnt want to hear, not this soon.

Post by Creations on Thu Nov 17, 2011 11:27 pm

My mum has less than a year to live, if she recieves a liver transplant maybe 3 if we are lucky. She is all the family I have other than my husband and 2 kids. She just turned 50, other contributing factors in her life are causing finannical difficultly. Theres only me, no other kids, and she lives 2 states away. Sorry theres no point to this message other than for me to type and cry. How do I tell the kids, they are so little and they both get to miss out.

Such a sad, sad piece of news to receive. Your mother is so young... the same age as I am. You write whatever you need to, whenever you need to.... your forum friends are here with open hearts.
I love you

It isn't fair for either of you. She is way too young and you still need your mom. Hugs and sympathy.

I feel your pain cause I've been in the same boat (my father died last year) and in my personal opinion I think your kids don't need to know all the details (they won't understand) just tell them she is sick and don't feel good, my father and I were very close I used to travel to South America every 2 months to help him, they get so needy, so your mom its gonna NEED you, my best advice: the little time she feels better give and do anything she wants, there will be only few moments were she can be happy.

Oh no. Kylie. So sorry to hear this. I know your pain. As far as telling your kids..... I've read that you shouldn't just tell them that your Mum is 'sick' coz if you or they get 'sick' they associate the two and can really stress. For example, if she has cancer, tell them she has cancer. Don't be afraid to use the correct terminology. You don't need to be really graphic, kids often just take things on face value, might ask a couple of questions and absorb what they need to. Well, I would read up about it. You can only go with what feels right for you.

I hope you can find a way to spend some time together. I wish things could be dfferent.

Losing your Mom is the worst, I am sorry you will have to go through that. A friend of mine who had cancer, made a video for each member of the family while she still felt well enough. They treasure having her to watch when ever they want to.

So sorry to hear about your mom. I hope that you find a way that she can spend time with you and your family. We were given one year notice that my mom was dieing also. She and I spent that year laughing, loving, and saying all that needs to be said. Two months after her death my husband passed away suddenly. There was no advance notice and no chance to say good-bye. I understand your pain.

My heart breaks for you. It is such an important bond and it being 'the way of things' does nothing to make losing a parent easier! You have my deepest sympathies. Are there financial or obligational issues to bringing her to stay with you or is that just impossible?

My heart & prayers are going out to you & your mother. I know how hard it is to lose a parent(I miss my dad every day). I'm praying you can visit with your mom & build lots of fun & good memories & that she can have a much longer time & great time w/ you & your family! Just tell the kids the truth & then hug them a lot. Have lots of pictures & things of hers to share w/ them & help them remember her. This can be a sweet, sweet time in your lives. Life is so precious that we live it stronger when we know there can be a loss(my dad & I had some of our best times together his last year).

I wish I could fly over & give you a hug right now!

I'm so sorry. There's no one who can replace a mum, I miss mine still and no matter what the age or reason, it's still hard to bear, especially when there is distance involved.

Maybe you can keep in contact through skype or some other free chat program? At least that way you and your kids can spend more time with her than otherwise might be possible when you live so far apart...I do hope they're able to find a liver for her quickly and that those three years stretch on and on so that ten years from now you'll be together, looking back on this difficult time...

Hugs hun....

My mom was 53 when she passed suddenly from a massive bleed on her brain. No chance to say goodbye. Father passed after a long bout with cancer which invaded his brain and altered his personality. I believe I will see them again one day. That is the only thing that makes it easier. Prayers for you.

Ah and I forgot, I know you are a creative person, make a blanket memory quilt with your family pictures, so she will always be covered by the love of her family and when somebody else sees it, she will always tell stories about her daughter and grandkids.
