I think it's which ever you prefer, though I'm certainly not experienced enough to say. I don't think there is a different use for either. They both do the same thing.
Oh, by the way....welcome to the forum!

agree with the above, pretty much the same thing, but just had to pipe up and ask if your Avatar is Blue from Blues Clues? SO CUTE!

I think one-stroke cakes are actually more flexible but rainbow and split cakes are great for full faces. Why not both?

I think you get more for your money out of the 50gram rainbow cakes. If you are crafty you can always cut part of them out and make smaller one strokes (like arty cakes), then have the best of both worlds. I can't justify the price of the small ones for the amount of paint in them. Don't get me wrong, I see so many beautiful things painted with them, but they aren't practical for me. I burn through the tag pearl and dft neon rainbow cakes. They are beautiful and the boys like them too. And welcome to the forum!!
Re: which to invest in Rainbow cakes or arty cakes
I dunno.
I bought a rainbow neon cake... and made all my other split cakes.
I'd rather make my own than to buy them.. *L* Quirky, that's me.
Plus.. if you're just starting.. and/or are short on $$$ you can buy the cakes.. use 1/2 to make splits (various widths) and still have paint to use for regular face painting!!
Good luck no matter what you decide to purchase!

Good idea Kat. I have lots of single colour pots and I'm starting to think I should make splits and rainbows with them. Surely that will save space on my table. Right?
Re: which to invest in Rainbow cakes or arty cakes
The term "rainbow cakes" usually refers to big cakes of multiple colors. "Arty Cakes" are made by Silly Farm but there are other companies that also make similar products called "one-strokes." Arty Cakes were the first ones to make them (I think) and they were invented by (and continue to be designed by) Rebecca of Arty Brush Strokes.
Rainbow cakes/split cakes, are good for laying down bases or just picking up a couple of split colors. One strokes are good for doing small rainbows and a bunch of cool designs that use two or more colors at one time on the brush (in "one stroke.")

LAst time I check - this may have changed you would need to ask Rebecca - but the arty cakes were a mix of brands.... so they did ( used to ) wear unevenly, and you can't be sure if the kid has a reaction to what brand you were using.
Tag onestrokes are all TAG.
Untill recently there was a difference in containers to - artycakes were to small and fiddly but they have changed them to something similar to TAG... you still get moe in TAG split and EVEN more in a PRISMA.
