Mica & glitter haul! So shiny!!! [updated with first tattoo attempts!]

Post by PerfectlyPaintedFaces on Sat Nov 26, 2011 3:38 pm

It's so exciting when new stuff arrives! Smile

I bought a bunch of mica, glitter and tattoo stencils today! Now I just have to wait for the glue to come in... bounce

Here are some pics!

I got 2oz bottles of mica ($8-$15 dollars each), and a 4oz bottle of sparkly irridescent glitter (only $13 bucks for that giant bottle!!!). This stuff is gonna last me A LONG TIME.

It's very soft and shimmery, I'm hoping it'll be a bit more opaque on top of the glue. The gold and bronze are really beautiful! They'll look great on top of face paint.

The glitter is really nice too... very fine and irridescent, like fairy dust. Can't wait to use it!

And of course I got a bunch of stencils too!

I hope that glue comes in soon!!!

Don't want to rain on your parade, (and the Coastalscents.com was a major pain...but A whole pound of the iridescent fairy dust cost me $20 with free shipping) I didn't order mica, but the sale is on until the 29th...FYI---it won't come up as half off until you check out...but since you are stocking up, you might want to check out any brushes, etc...

I got all my supplies from WholesaleSuppliesPlus. I bought all my soap-making supplies stuff there a while ago, then recently noticed they also carry cosmetic-grade mica and glitter (for colouring soaps and cosmetics) so that's where I got it.

$20 for a pound of glitter is an awesome deal, anniel! I was checking out kabuki brushes on CoastalScents, still thinking about if I wanna get some during the sale... we'll see! Smile

Coastal Scents has been down for days doing weird stuff like it did to you. Apparently they don't have the capacity to handle the sale they offered.

Janna, is that glitter and mica for cosmetic use? Love the bottles they come in! The fact that it says 'crafters' choice makes me a little nervous....

Pretty colors!

I use to get mica from TKB trading company for making eyeshadows Smile

Crown Brush is a wonderful place to get makeup brushes for wholesale prices! I know Coastal Scents gets a lot of their brushes from there Wink They have an international website, too Wink

Yeah, the company name doesn't really express the right message, but it says they are all cosmetic-grade on the bottles and the site info!

On the micas its says:
Produces a dramatic sparkle in clear bases. Approved for general cosmetics, lip and eye products.

Approved Color Additive Applications:
General Cosmetics - Yes
Cosmetics for Eye - Yes
Lip – Yes

Appearance: Sparkling Metallic Appearance.
Particle Size: 56 – 70 µm, D50 (bigger number makes for more sparkle)

And the glitter says:

Precision cut particles consisting of reflective polyester and acrylic layers. Style and size of cut provides a fine matrix of sparkle. Industry approved for eye contact. Excellent for cosmetic applications. Size: .004" (.008" is larger than .004")

Common Uses:
Cosmetics.

Points of Interest:
Precision cut particles consisting of reflective polyester and acrylic layers. Style and size of cut provides a fine matrix of sparkle. Industry approved for eye contact. Excellent for cosmetic applications. Free of minerals and pigments. For ease of use, glitter is packaged in a bottle with yorker top. 10 ounces of glitter fills a standard 16 oz bottle.

Size: .004" (.008" is larger than .004")

It even goes on to say that you shouldn't use standard craft glitter for cosmetics. So it all sounds good to me! Wink

Is Ben Nye lumiere luxe pwders a mica then? I have a hardtime understanding and relating the american products with the canadian products. But the picture of the powder on your finger sure looks like the shimmer powders I use which are the ben nye ones.. like a strong pigmented loose eye shadow? You guys are calling that mica... is that right? Either way I am admiring the large quantity you got and the colour range... wow.
