Looking for some rat inspiration from my peeps!!

Post by Mehndi Masala on Fri Dec 02, 2011 12:20 am

Here's the story!!

So doing a group body/face paint (whoo boy!) based on an 'urban' take on the Nutcracker Suite..... I have my nutcracker prince, (full torso and some face) I have my sugerplum girl (chest, arms, possibly legs) , I have my doll (face and limbs), BUT I still have king rat and the 2 rat soldiers/princesses. Anyone have any ideas or seen any really good rat faces? The rat king I'm probably going to fang up, ensure I have blackened fingertips, painted 'fur' on the backs of the hands and accentuate the knuckles...but I'm thinking 'Disney' cute for the two girls...but still 'ratty' but the rats that maybe would have been pals with Snow White rather than Paris sewer. I'll take any suggestions at all as I need the inspiration.....maybe it'll come to me, but I figure getting by with a little help from my friends can't hurt!!

The Rat King should look scary, so I agree, go with the teeth. He'll be dressed in fancy 17th century clothing. My son has been casted this year as the Rat King/Soldier Doll & is dancing a partnering piece for Chinese!!!

This is a pretty cool looking Rat King:

Great rat photo! Thanks Linda! Maybe context would help!!

In this one my 'Nutcracker prince' is very princely looking (medium body builder, blond, dimples, square jaw) and will be pretty Disney with the exception of a goth/tribal dripping heart in the center ( this is the guy I found at the comic con and he loves to be painted! I'll edit this post to show you a picture) and the rat king is more like a biker boss ...kinda greasy...it's an 'urban' take on the story so some of the characters are more 'adult'. For instance, we've all seen the cracked face doll face, that's where the doll is going...more pretty and creepy than just pretty, and the fairy is almost gothy/skanky....sorta suger plum meets punk stripper!

This is for a group I've just joined called 'Drawn and Plastered'. It's an art community thing where amature and pro models, actors, artists and photographers get together for this event. The models must 'act' as well as pose. So hold pose for sketch artists for 20 mins, then dance around a bit for some live action for photographers, small 'dance' type number, 15 minute 'mini photoshoot' then move on again all done to a lounge-ish atmosphere with varied lighting around the venue. Bright corner, deep shadows, open spaces, nooks and crannies. The organizers take this labor of love VERY seriously and there is a test shoot and model meetings. This is monthly! This is gonna be fun!!!!
EDIT! Here is my prince!

Ahh I love rats! I've had 5 pet rats in the past... lovely little creatures! sunny

For a sinister looking rat king, the one in Fantastic Mr. Fox may provide some inspiration:

For nice looking rats... I agree, check out Ratatouille for ideas!

Rats are so cute! http://img.designswan.com/2010/07/rat/5.jpg

Rats faces are SO long and thin... it really seems like you need some type of prosthetic to change the shape of his "snout"...
