Lynne McKay's workshop
I was lucky enough to attend Lynne McKay's workshop today. This lovely lithe woman with a gentle Scottish lilt lead a class that consisted of brand spanking new face painters to quite accomplished facepainters. This was my first ever workshop. I learned so much from watching Lynne paint. Lynne painted from far away, up close, moving the model to face the class from every angle. I loved the class. While I type this...I am still wearing the the amazing line work on my left arm that I learned to create, double-line, hilight, and then do the 3-D hilights to make the line work POP! It seems simple. It was so tough for me. I am so happy I took this seminar.
Lynne mentioned that she is on her way to visit the lovely Shannon Fennell, (and, mentioned Shannon a few times during the workshop) and revealed the fact that Shannon will be taking her snowshoeing. If I had known, I would have had my husband go with Lynne to BC to trade him for the fake DFX. He shaves his head so he would be an excellent practice head. While Shannon does not need the practice, my friend Marcia told me that I should not trade Tim in for fake DF/X. She said I should trade him in for something that has batteries and vibrates. Hmmmmmm. What would THAT BE? Hey, Tim can parallel park.
I met a facepainter, Sheila that I volunteered with at Shania's Sunflower of Hope in Markham to raise money for Neuroblastoma. I painted beside Barb "Ruggabug". WOW! Barb's pristine paint linework was amazing. I learned from Barb, too.
I loved that Dotsy the Clown was there to offer us brushes, sponges, Wolfe paint, Snazzeroo paint and Paradise paint. (I smelled the Paradise paint and almost threw up, the fake coconut smell is nauseating. I wish there was the same paint without the fake perfume.)
I highly recommend Lynne McKay's workshop. Lynne will teach to whatever level you are at. I will push myself because of how Lynne taught me.
I was so happy to meet other people addicted to facepainters like I am today.

Re: Lynne McKay's workshop
Ah ha... you agreed with me!
About the Paradise smell... not trading the husband.
Lynne has a wonderful touch with a brush.
And I do plan to take her snowshoeing in Muskoseepi Park... and if the timing is right to the dog sled races.

Re: Lynne McKay's workshop
Dear Clowngirl:
I have to be careful about what I say. I referred to the aroma of Paradise Paint as "fake perfume" because I react badly to perfume. I adore the natural scent of coconut. The smell was very strong when I opened the lid to look closely at the color. I figure that if I react to a facepaint product, there will be a child out there who would react, too.
I have heard rave reviews about the paint quality & coverage of Paradise. The colors are gorgeous. I do not think I could ever use Paradise paint because of the very heavy scent.
I did not check out the MSDS sheet for Paradise to see if they have added perfume. I would have to be interested in purchasing the product in order to check out the ingredient list.

Re: Lynne McKay's workshop
Thanks Lisa, I assumed the scent was due to it containing cocoa butter and a few other things but am not sure. I can't get enough of the scent
Re: Lynne McKay's workshop
I wonder if leaving the lids off for an extended period of time would lessen the smell? So many people seem to dislike it, I'm surprised they still include it.
Re: Lynne McKay's workshop
The smell is almost nonexistant once you leave the lids off. I store ll my paints lidless. Paradise is by far the best paint for blending. I love it!
I don't think there's real coconut in it... not sure how they get that smell. But it's not as strong as some of the ther brands....

Re: Lynne McKay's workshop
My cousin in law was at Lynne's workshop too. She said she loved it. She is a brand new painter, and I told her it was a perfect opportunity for her
Wish I could have gone myself!
