my first princess appearance-update

Post by Kat's FacesForFun on Sat Dec 03, 2011 8:34 pm

After painting for several years, I decided I wanted to introduce "Princess Katrina". I've been acting and singing since I was a little girl. I love theater and performing. I don't have a "routine" or show right now, so I just went to the party today in character to paint faces. In the future, I will probably say something like, "help to make your little princess feel beautiful". I'm not advertising it yet. Today I went to the party dressed as a princess for no additional cost. I let the mom know that it was my first time as Princess Katrina, and just an opportunity to get pictures and try out the character. She was thrilled. She even grabbed my camera and took some pictures for me. It was a fun time.

I was wondering if any of you go to parties in character? I'm planning to eventually have an entire princess party with songs and a story... coronation ceremony... princess dances and games. But... for now I just want to be able to get a portfolio for "the painting princess". How much do you guys add on to your price to have your facepainting be in character?

Thanks for the feedback!

Ummm... also... is this dress too revealing? I live in a very conservative area. Would you be uncomfortable if I came to your child's party? As I was going through pictures I realized I have a lot more cleavage than I thought. In the original pictures I don't have any. Granted... I don't normally have to bend quite as far. the mom wanted me to use her high barstool chair when I spoke with her, and it wasn't as high as I anticipated.

I love that dress, what a great idea.
It would be really easy to slap a panel into the front if you feel you need it. I've done it on a number of dresses. Just a few inches makes a HUGE difference. Can give some help if you need it.

Love it! I agree with sweethaven, if you're in doubt at all I would add the panel!

Thanks sweethaven. This was a simple prom dress that I added sleeves to and turned into a princess dress. I still have the material. I just didn't really want to change the shape of the dress. But... I think I will add a little peice in. Any thoughts from anyone about pricing? I'm priced pretty low for regular painting parties, so I wanted to increase the price a little to go in character.

Personally, I think you're fine. But if you are having doubts about it, then you might want to add a panel. My thoughts are you are a woman, you're going to have cleavage.

LOL. Honestly... I used to rock some pretty amazing cleavage before I had twins. Since then, I've lost all of my baby weight and then some. So... If my cleavage was still "attractive" I might not worry about it. But.. I'm supposed to be a young, beautiful princess and my cleavage is a dead "mommy of 3" givaway. lol. Yeah. Enough about that. Rolling Eyes We'll just cover it.
I also think I need to wear a wig or fall so that I have long hair. More princess like. The problem is... my blonde hair is totally a phase. I've had dark brown hair my entire life. I have about 10 brown wigs in different shapes.. extensions... falls...ect. NOTHING blonde. Not sure if I want to make the investment when I know I will go back to brown soon. I guess I've never regretted a a good wig purchase... tongue

Still wondering if anyone has character appearance pricing advice for me? bounce

I love the flowers too! Great costume. I personally would cover up because of the angles you will be photographed. Smart to have those nice sleeves. You make a very pretty princess.

Awww.. Thank you. I've often wondered how face painters felt about modesty in their appearance. I've considered starting a thread so that we could have a healthy discussion about it. There doesn't seem to be a "standard". We are primarily working with kids.

Agreed. I've seen many different looks! Believe me! LoL Character pricing can be tricky. It varies a lot depending on your area and how close you want to be to a copyright character. I would just call around and see. I know some who will charge $25 more on top of their usual fee, like an add-on. I would also suggest leaving the girls with a small princess-y party favor like a little wand or hair clip. It helps sell the character and the increased price.

Yes, I agree. I plan to have little tiaras for each girl at the party. I can get them in bulk for a great deal. $25 sounds reasonable. I think that will make it worth my time.

Sweet! Love the dress and I think your hair looks fine.

If they want me to dress in character it is an additional $50.

I can dress as: Clown - Whiteface or Auguste, Fairy Godmother, Princess/Queen, Witch, Vampire, Alien - Bajoran Vedic, Alien - Klingon, Alien - Vulcan, Starfleet Officer, Cowgirl, Gypsy, Hippy Flower Child, Soldier, .... I have an extensive tickle trunk!

I don't advertise this - just in small print on my webpage. I'm not fond of spending the extra time getting ready. I used to face paint in clown but killed her off as I was having problems wearing make-up.

I will just dress to suit a theme - they are still only getting face painting.

I do have sets of small wings and tiara/wand sets if anyone does hire the fairy or princess... just for photos.

Since I killed the clown off I haven't had anyone hire a character - but as noted, I don't promote it.
