Congratulations!! You have "arrived", as they say. Wink I think your shark is super cute too. Because I am a bit of a smart a$$ I would probably say, "Oh my goodness, how in the world did you get my son to model for you? You paint sharks just like I do!" But... that's not very professional. lol.

How did you find your picture? I was wondering that myself. How in the world would I know if one of mine was stolen and used somewhere?

Oh my heck, she is in your AREA?!!? That can't be a coincidence. Suspect That's borderline PERSONAL. But again... she is probably just naive to the fact that she shouldn't use other people's pictures. I think when people are starting they think they don't have a lot of pictures of their own and their just looking for examples of facepainting to post. Maybe when you contact her you can say, "it would be a lot more beneficial to you to advertise what you have personally painted, and not just examples of face painting."

Isn't it illegal to post pictures of children on advertisements without written parental permission? Unless each of those children's parents/guardians have signed a model release form, can't the person posting the purloined pictures be sued?
Um, I'm going away now, to sign model release forms for posting my own children on my own website that I am working upon.
Damned paperwork!

My answer is for the US, not Canadian law. There are also state-specific laws you should become familiar with.

Anyone can walk up to you, snap your kid's photo and publish it in a newspaper, magazine, television news report, or anything that serves to educate the greater population or serves to uphold the First Amendment.

Where it gets more tricky is if the picture is specifically for commercial gain, trade, or advertising - to sell a product or service as fesspenter mentioned.

In general, it's a good idea to get a photo release from everyone you photograph. This is especially true for face painters as our photos are used on display boards, websites, and other advertising materials.

Great website for understanding the legal mumbo-jumbo of photography rights:

they are all stolen 2 trace back to from snazaroo - skull and puppy
they both have 10 pages of google uses/steals but the most "likley" origin is snazaroo.
the ninja turtle is from

It is horrible to find your own child - it just seems that bit worse i.e. your art and your child.
it happened to me in aus I used parental consent (lack of it) to get it down fast
