Animal Theme @ Daycare Xmas Party

Post by lollyjean on Mon Dec 05, 2011 5:30 am

Hey everyone! Okay so this Friday night I am FP @ my daughter's daycare (free - I offered as is great practice for me & they really do provide such wonderful care for my daughter - I think I'd lose the plot if I didn't have her in daycare...digressing here back to topic!). It is animal themed...yay hope for lots of tigers, dogs, cats, Butterflies - I am counting butterflies as an animal for the night Laughing Hope to not get elephants, rhinos, ducks etc as have not practiced them yet (still a beginner!!!). I had some of the teachers approach me today to ask if I would paint some of them before hand as part of their costume...that's cool So I know I definately have a bunny (she wanted to do playboy bunny so we'll see if that happens lol), a leopard and a bumblebee. Think there will be about 8 adults altogether. So first thing:

1. The bumblebee - All the lady wants is a black nose and some black stripes. How do I nicely suggest that maybe we could do a little bit more fancy/colour etc than that? I want to give her want she wants but at the same time I want my work to look good and professional as it will be on display to all the parents there

2. I really hope this doesn't come across rude! but there will be a few older adults there and am wondering what is the best way to achieve a great look? Would it be better sticking to eye/mask designs? Suggestions/tips?

3. And lastly... (thanks to everyone who has stuck around to read this far! This has become a very long ramble!!!) There is going to be anywhere btwn 80 - 100 kids plus their siblings who don't attend daycare and I have like oh maybe 1hour - 1 and 1 1/2 hours to paint them!!! Razz How on earth do I manage it so that most of the kids get something on their faces (if they want it, that is). I know I have got to make it simple but how simple do I go? I'm abit of a perfectionist so it's going to be tough!!

Please help the newbie from little ol' New Zealand!!!

Greetings, Down Under Neighbour. Eeek 80-100 kids in under two hours. Eeek, yes thats scary. Maybe just the markings or the definitive feature of each animal, you know, a trunk for the elephant, and the different markings for each of the big cats, giraffe and zebra blocking and the like. Otherwise you'll end up doing amazing work on 20 kids and thats all. I'm about to start the routine of day care centres for Christmas, and have steered them in the direction of ten quick designs, and thats it, on the board. BTW, my first day care gig, a boy of about ten asked for an udder. That's right. An udder. Right on his cheek. Smile

Hey neighbour! Smile Thanks for the suggestions! I like the idea of the 10 quick designs. I wasn't going to have a board just go with matching the costume they are in but I think having a board with 10 quick designs is a MUCH better idea. & hopefully that way I can avoid having to FP any udders!! Crikey!! Anybody think there are a few issues going on there?! Laughing Thinking of udders I had a gig during the RWC (yay the All Blacks!!!! & Sonny Bill!) & a NZ man in his 40's wanted to support the French and had me draw a French Rooster taking a poop!!! I don't know why udders made me think of roosters pooping, but it did! Will hopefully get some more practice in during the week with blocking/markings/features. Good luck with all the day care centres. Love your avatar BTW!!!
