LIGHTS FOR A TENT

Post by Jobena1 on Tue Dec 06, 2011 11:12 am

[font=Comic Sans Ms]Hiya Everyone..I am sorry if somehow I missed any of this info...BUT how do you all add lights to your tents during nightime festivals/gigs? I have seen clip on lights and noticed there can be shadowing thus not having a clear face to paint? I thought of tube lights? maybe string lights...I have a 9 day festival and will have electric provided for me...I just want to find the easiest...nicest...and bright way to set up this tent...all ideas welcome. I don't like to see cords hanging so I want it to look neat. Thanks ALL for your help!! Happy Holidays!![

I use white Christmas lights and also clip a really bright light to the frame, point it upwards to deflect the harshness of it, and keep an eye on it. It does get hot, so I'm careful that it doesn't burn the canvas.

This is what I use, no shadows, and you zip tie them to each corner and the center of the tent. You will be lit up more than anyone else, and it looks very professional!

The reason we do not use Christmas or rope light is they draw too much power, and we will not use noisy generators. We use battery inverters. So we use an inexpensive $10 flush mount ceiling light w/energy saving light bulbs- ours has three lights that we can direct to areas in our tent. If we don't want a light on we simply loosen that bulb. WE can swap out the wattage , even cover with simple paper lanterns when we want a soft lighting effect. The light fixture has a small lip/edge that meets the ceiling - we drilled holes and simply zip/cable the fixture to the center, where the metal supports meet - it is flat and perfect for a light.

I got mine at Lowes, I think. Any home improvement big box place should have them, not sure that there was a brand on them. They worked well for me, but, you do have to have electricity, and since I do airbrush as well as face painting, I only go where I can run my compressor...so it is not usually an issue. The work really well. We are usually the brightest tent around, there is no missing us!

I have a single, hanging construction/shop type lamp. It works fine for me, hang it right from the middle of the tent.

I have head lamps. They are battery powered flashlights(torches) that are strapped to my forehead by a band. I've seen ones that attach to ballcaps & plan on getting those since they look like they'd be more attractive(I look like a minor).

Sweet Loretta- Can you post a link or some info as to what brand/ type of battery inverter you use, and what/how long it can work for?

I have been trying to look into those but haven;t had much luck and they seem a little pricey to just buy and experiment.

I use the same as a face painting mom...they paid for themself in the first night, and they do seem to help me stand out from the other vendors! Roughly $80 for a set. Awesome lights, I have 2 sets now.

@Loretta - do you have a pic of the mount you're talking about? I'm having trouble picturing it.

Oh sorry I didn't see this - life gets so busy I don't come on line here too often I post a pic of the lights tonight.
As for the invertor I am on my third one - the first lasted about nine years, the second lasted a year - who knows! Of course it was the one that cost the most! I use a simple one at about $30-50 that you can get at any auto supply store. They have an on/off switch and two plug ins. We use a marine battery for long life.
