@skjfunny, I really like your advise. I do need the practice and it would be a good confidence booster. And if they are willing to pay for some product, and some advertising, I think it will be all good. The request came from a guy I hung out with growing up, and I would like to reconnect with him and his wife, and you're right it, would be really cool to see my faces up on stage in a ballet! It is sponsered by The Toledo Zoo, so maybe I'll ask if they could have me paint there this summer, who knows what it could lead to....

... just a comment about being "good enough to get paid"...

If you're good enough for someone to want your work, then you're good enough to be compensated for it.

Otherwise, lots of great suggestions here! )

FYI... if you do donate or reduce your prices, may I suggest one thing? Still sign a contract, and make sure the contract shows the full price of what you do, with a line item discount (call it "friends & family discount" or whatever... and subtract out the amount you're not making, so that when the next person who isn't your friend wants you sees what you did, they'll know just what a good deal they are getting.

No... I haven't seen that book yet. But I am absolutely inspired by Margi's work!! I've seen a lot of "nose work" but hers is the first that has ever worked for me. I'll have to check out her other book. She told me this week that she'd been doing a Grinch for years, and, while I haven't seen it, I don't doubt for a moment that it's spectacular. (Is it in her book? I could use some help.) My little grinch was the result of a crabby husband. I was getting ready for a gig I had in a few hours, and he was being a stinker, so I told him to sit still while I painted something appropriate. I was just going to put the face on his forehead (which I did & took his photo, with the intent of replacing his FB profile photo!) , but then I kept going. I'd actually love to keep working on it. This one took me about 5 minutes, and I'm sure there has to be a way to do it fast & better. The best part was watching his family's & friends' responses to him on Facebook.

dont know if its to late, havent gotten to post in awhile, but yes use whatever designs you want to. Im glad you like my elephant. =0) It makes me smile.
