My first adult gig - pics are ready
I have finally had a chance to upload the pics. Sorry for the delay. I spent all day yesterday driving to and from The Wiggles show in Brisbane.
Anyway, I really didn't take enough pics
I painted about 20 ladies, including eye designs and arm bands, ankle bands, but I only seem to have taken pics of 2 designs. I'm hoping that the client and her friends may share some of the pics they took on my page, but I won't hold my breath. Because I can't be bothered going through the whole process of loading them onto the forum, here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.278546342180807.59424.204971372871638&type=1
Now here is my original post... it's long so feel free to skip it if you like.
Just back from my first adult painting gig - a 40th birthday party at a pub - and it was a lot of fun. I was surprised how nervous I was at first. My hands were shaking (haven't had that for a while now). And despite the fact that I have been researching and practicing more mature designs for several weeks, I still felt the rising panic when the ladies said, 'oh - just do whatever you like'. Blank! Aaaah!
I wasn't so thrilled with my first few attempts at eye designs. They were ok (I hope), but I was drawing a large audience and I just wasn't feeling all that relaxed. Not in the zone yet, I guess. Plus my paint was too wet/dry or whatever. I didn't take any photos at that stage, although I probably should have, if only to see where I could improve.
I painted my first mask (which was not on my face or my practice head, Dolly) and was fairly happy with that.
What I enjoyed most, though, was being given a nice bare back/shoulder to work on. I covered it in hibiscus flowers, which although simple, I think they came out nicely. I hope the photos don't prove me wrong. I will post them here tomorrow.
Of course, as the night progressed, my clients enjoyed my work more and more... lol... funny that. And of course people are easily impressed when they see a one-stroke effect in action for the first time. I always think to myself - if only you knew what the talented artists can do with this stuff.
I think I have convinced a lovely mum-to-be to volunteer her bump for a paint and photograph session. She seemed pretty keen, so hopefully she'll contact me and we can work out a time.
Plus I have a couple more who will volunteer for some henna practice - and plenty of cards were handed out too.
So all in all, a good night and I'm hoping it's the first of many more. The next step: I will work on developing and practicing eye designs for women... and then next time someone says, 'do whatever you like', hopefully something will pop into my head!

Painting adults is harder than kids, they expect a lot from you when request like "make me beautiful" or "hide my wrinkles" I keep forgetting that Liquid bling is your best friend for adults face painting.
Re: My first adult gig - pics are ready
Sounds like you had quite a successful night & I'm looking forward to the photos!
If a crowd watching makes you nervous, next time position yourself so you are facing a wall (to also protect supplies from being touched) and the line is behind you, so those in line are entertained watching the designs unfold and unseen by you (unless you turn a small mirror leaning against the wall to see how long the line is to end it ; )
Cheers,
Susan

Congratulations on your 1st adult gig, I think you did AMAZING! Love the flowers on the shoulder and the ones on the leg.
Too funny what you said about using the split cake hahaha
Crossing my fingers you get a call from the pregnant mom.
