Eyebrows...

Post by Lady Jayde on Wed Aug 19, 2009 12:04 am

Okay...here's weird question number 2,718... is it best to cover the eyebrows completely when painting things like wide butterflies and full face art? What if the child/person has dark eyebrows? I was just looking at my little gallery and my daughter's eyebrows jumped out at me. Not literally, but they were very prominent.
Should I have applied more paint to mask them? How does one do that while keeping the softness of the color? Am I making sense?

I just paint over them... like in this example (it was the only one I could find quick where the eyebrows actually show up!) if they are particularly thick I just work a little harder to get the paint into them IF NECESSARY to cover the skin so it doesn't show through th hair.

Most paints will actually hold on the hairs pretty well, so if you are working with a light or sparkle colour you just really need to go over the area.

Make sure that you cover all or nothing of the eyebrows. Do not make the lines cross them, so half is painted and the other half is hair colour. And - like Shannon say - where there should be paint, paint all the way down to the skin.

Well, I tried again, but I felt as if I were loading the poor girls brows up with paint...and they still peeked through! Is there a secret for really dark brows? How do I get complete coverage without effecting the blending as well?

my advice (take it for what it's worth) is the same advice I've gotten about my clown makeup... don't worry about it. If you obsess about it, you're more likely going to ruin the design in trying to cover something that the people won't even care about. We all know it's a face and not a canvas, faces have eyebrows.

I agree with Perry. (Short of having someone to shave them off before you paint, of course!)

I think sometimes something can annoy you when your painting and then you realise that its only really you it annoys. I do this.

Okay, seriously.......STOP starring at the brows! LOL

Eyebrows are one of those weird things on a face that if stared at too long, they look like they don't belong there. Very Happy

Every face is completely different, that hair on every body is different. Your butterfly looks great and the eyebrow isn't even noticeable. Keep up the good work! cheers

Make it a moth instead. They are hairy ;-)

I do obsess about eyebrows, but only when doing normal makeup, since I can't start tweezing when facepainting. Even sometimes I would like. Some Arab children (both boys and girls) have more or less thick unibrows. That can be a challenge! Also young boys having a small moustache. But that is a plus when doing pirate designs!

This is a super-funny thread. Yeah, I obsessed too at first. My boyfriend who is a VERY TALENTED artist and aspiring automotive airbrush artist, told me that you always see flaws in your work that others probably won't even notice. The AVERAGE person that has never touched a paintbrush doesn't even realize it. Cannot count the times I have seen my own flaws and cringed. You have to learn to let it ride. What ever you see flaw - wise is magnified in your eyes because it's your work. Nobody else sees it. NO WORRIES! afro

I always get a slight panic when this happens! There's like 3/4" to work with on those little girls and they want the elaborate design that their friend with the fivehead got! Ah! But it always works out in the end... and everyone is always happy! Yay stick on jewels!!!! Very Happy

This is so funny! But I do have to add, I learned last weekend on YouTube how to hide eyebrows by using a gluestick! (Not to do to unsuspecting unibrowed princesses... I need mine to disappear for a Halloween idea). Rolling Eyes (My smiley is watching her eyebrows disappear!)

Oh, that is SO funny! In the photography world, they always say "If the client doesn't notice a flaw, do NOT point it out to them. They don't know the difference, so just go with the flow..." or flaw in this case! I love the little boys that have snot on their faces or ketchup on their mouths from lunch...I just send them to their moms and ask them to clean them up a little. I'm not going to spit clean someone else's kid!

I use soap, not glue sticks, on eyebrows... easier to remove later!

Just regular bar soap? Cool. There were a number of cross-dressers demonstrating how they hide their bushy man-brows so they can draw on more feminine brows. Said it came off with a hot wash cloth. I haven't tried it yet, but I don't have bushy man-brows.

I use Pears... it's clear and dries clear... easier to cover, mask with the rest of the stuff!

oh boy lol... just never say "eek hairy butterfly!" to the kid. This reminds me of this little girl I did a colorfull butterfly tat on her arm and when I was done she was so happy smiling ear to ear, then this lady who I think was her aunt or moms friend says super loud, "OOOoo a hairy butterfly!!" The little girls face just dropped and she instantly got shy and like she wanted to take it off Sad ...omg I felt like smacking this lady in the jaw. The mom was throwing her daggers so I'm sure she heard it later. Twisted Evil

By the way I think your butterfly looks great. You seemed to cover the brow nicely!
