Me too! I loved our cruise for our anniversary. We actually went with a landlord group and got some tax write-offs. Would love to know the good and bad of it.

My sister is a Jazz drummer and has aspirations of working on a cruise ship, she says most entertainers she knows use an agent who books talent for resorts and cruise ships. Other than that I dunno. I bet LisaJoyYoung would be able to tell you, she mentioned working on a cruise at one point in one of her videos.

There's a process to become a Royal Caribbean Face Painter. You basically have to show them what your cleaning process is, etc. You DON'T get paid to face paint for them, but only pay a minimal cabin fee, so it's a very inexpensive trip. You usually have to commit to face painting for a designated amount of time & often there's not a lot of people to paint. So, it's an easy gig & fun mostly paid vacation. It also looks good on your resume Very Happy
It's on my "list" to get approved even if I never go on a cruise(my hubby's retired Navy & cruises have never appealed to him).

The company that hires the face painters is Sixth Star - here is the link

They do the hiring for RCCL.

Very interesting question! Thats a cool idea. I live in Florida and we are a huge cruise state being so close to Mexico and the Caribbeans.

Their cleaning process is pretty much the same one I have to follow.... http://www.calgaryhealthregion.ca/publichealth/envhealth/program_areas/special_events/documents/Requirements_for_Personal_Services_at_Special_Events_&_Trade_Shows_2007.pdf

So do you just use a different brush for each client, and color? What if you have to re-load your brush? Do you rinse in a special solution? Do your brushes have to dry before you can use them again? I'm so curious about these cleaning regulations!

I have a face painting friend that just got back from a cruise & goes on them often. She said that it really depends on the ship. Some are very diligent & want the MSDS papers on all your paints, proof of insurance & have specific cleaning measures that must be followed. They'll check in on you regularly, etc. Then others won't even make sure your not using shoe wax... She just returned from a cruise last week & was scheduled for 9 face paint sessions. The cruise director spoke w/ her once & she never saw him again. She used Brush Bath, brought the MSDS papers & proof of insurance. he never asked to see any of the paperwork.

Interesting. Linda is your friend subcontracted or she works for the company that Shannon mentioned?

You don't work for the cruise line. Think of it as a trade. You get an almost free cruise for you & a guest & they get a face painter. You don't get paid & you do pay a minimal cabin cleaning fee.
I'm not sure what their rules are on tips, but most cruisers do not carry cash.
These trades can be worked out w/ some resorts too. I'm thinking of trying out a few local ones & seeing if I can get a few free nights for me & my hubby...

Hi,
about the sanitation measures.
I understand that using a fresh sponge for each client may be expected. But what about cleaning brushes??
I read the link Shannon sent and it mentions: Make Up and Facepaint: either single use or sanitized between each use.
SO...if I am using my favorite brushes...then I can rinse them in water and then "dip" them in an alcohol solution or wipe with a swab?
AND/OR I can use a mild bleach solution to sanitize after water rinsing and then swish again in fresh water to remove bleach?? Right?
So it just seems to add an extra rinse/sanitize/rinse step, right?
