Mop or tramp

Post by l!zzie on Fri Dec 16, 2011 4:25 pm

It's a short day's notice but I have to make a mop or tramp tomorrow and sunday.
I have bougt a fake nose, and know the base but maybe you have more ideas I can come up with?
Think I'll be shading a lot (dirty look), making some little scars or bruises, red shades around the eyes?
Tips are welcome!

Are mop and tramp the same idea? like a hobo?? I remember Red Skelton playing a great hobo...I wonder if there are any pictures of him via google that you could check...

Erhm... no... I googled the translation, but guess I'm wrong! Laughing
It's someone living on the street? Having an alcohol problem, homeless, begging... AHHHHHHH a beggar!!!???
That makes more sence doesn't it?!
I'm so sorry....

what is the fake nose for?

I get what you are saying now though a bum.

I really like the technique of taking an almost dry sponge with some brown paint and quickly scraping it on face to look like rug burn, or a scrape

The director of the musical asked for a big nose. So I got one!
I see what you mean. Thanks for the advice!

Here is a pic of a famous tramp clown with a big red nose. The reason for the big red nose is its a sign of an alcoholic.

Are you doing just the makeup or doing costume as well? Scruffy looking beard, messed up hair, bushy eyebrows, maybe blacken out a tooth, battered hat or one of those knit pull over hats, gloves with fingers missing. Just some ideas.

So, we went for the try out this morning.
I only have to do the make-up!
The roll isn't really a beggar, it's more like a kind of dwarf. The instructions weren't that clear... Made this:

Haven't used the nose yet, tonight is just the Christmas show where all the groups will be playing a little part of the musicals they're practising. In june they will play the whole musical and the nose will be used then.
For the Dutch members, my daughters group is playing: Kunt u ons de weg naar Hamelen vertellen, meneer?" And the person I painted is "Gruizel Gruis".
I looked up the translation in English, I think the story is based on the fairytale of Grimm: Pied Piper of Hamelin. Does that ring any bell?

Nice look. Yes with costume I could see the Pied Piper. He should have a little "wicked" edge to him. You'll do a great job. Smile

Well, just to make it a little bit difficult: this isn't the pied piper!
The musical isn't the real fairytale, but is based on it. The pied piper didn't take just children away, but also some adults and a nasty dwarf. This is the dwarf. They have to find their way back home to Hamelin together.
It's a Dutch production which is very well known in the Netherlands!
