Correct Face Painting Products

Post by Niecie on Fri Dec 23, 2011 11:43 am

Hello Everyone, I have been reading everyone's posts for the past several months and have learned a lot. You guys are really, really good. I have a question; I was recently in a restaurant and the face painter there had her paint in a small white palet and the paint was creamy. When she finished painting the first child, the little girl said that her face itched. The painter told her that it was normal and would stop itching when it dried. Now, in all of my searches on the face paint websites I do not see creamy paint. I paint my grandchildren weekly with Snazaroo and Tag and they have never complained of itching. Are there many creamy face paint products out there? Thanks.

There are two professional brands of "creamy" face paint:

Fantasy WorldWide
Fardel

They are water based cream make-up.

However, neither in my experience itch at all as they don't completely dry but stay slightly tacky to the touch. Frankly, Fantasty Worldwide is the most comfortable make-up of any description that I have ever worn.

Chances are it was either Palmer, acrylic craft paint or artists' acrylics - all of which SHOULD NOT be used on people IMO.

Another option could be regular theatreical cream make-up but as this doesn't "dry" probably wasn't it (*it is way more expensive!)

Hi Shannon, thanks for the information. I recently purchased your Business on Face Painting book and the information in it is invaluable to me. I will research these two brands. Thanks for your reply.

When I was younger and just beginning with painting, I experimented on myself a lot with £1 cream facepaint from halloween stores, it itched a lot but I thought it was normal... Until I broke out in rashes!
That's why it's so important to use reputable brands like the ones we see on here.

Chances are that's what she was using, or perhaps the paints mentioned above...

Shannon, just wanted to say I admire you for the way you share your experience. You are such a "giving" soul.

I've seen them before but I couldn't tell you a brand They almost seem like tempra paint and they dry and sort of crack a little. So the itching, provided it isn't a reaction, is while it dries, it's almost like a mud mask. I think that they are cheapie ones from the party store like they sell around Halloween. They also stain clothes.

Well you always have to take into account, that sometimes your face itches. Especially if theres stuff on it. I paint my face about 235 days a year (I work in a theme park required to paint my face) and you never realize how many times you itch your face until you can't touch it.
Of course it could have been a reaction to the paint, but also she could just be itchy.
