Day planner

Post by Geekophile on Tue Dec 27, 2011 1:03 pm

It's that time of year again- when we pen and paper gals go in search of a new dayplanner. Here's the thing: all of the books I've picked up have NO SPACE on the weekends- where I need it! Grr. I end up scribbling information over the other dates, and drawing arrows everywhere to connect them. It's a mess. So.... if anyone sees a book with extra room on the weekends let me know will ya?

I buy a pockey calendar from Michaels for $1. It is awesome. The same space for each day. If I can find one soon, I will mail it to you. Let me know.

Last year I had one for a dollar too - it was tiny spaces for the days, but on the opposite page it had space for notes, so I'd use that space to fill out the info for dates I needed it, it worked well.

I will check Michaels. Haven't looked at their selection (For some reason I'm always distracted by other things in that store!) I'm thinking three ring binder style.
My planner is my everything information source. After a gig I write notes to myself- "great tippers" or "birthday girl loves to sing." I keep my mileage (or else figure it out from the address written). This is where I take messages when a client calls, since I pull it out to check availability anyway- so name, #, email, everything has to fit there. So here's what I'm thinking: I'll make my own! There are entire websites out there devoted to DIY dayplanners! can you believe it? Now I just need to decide what kind of pages to include.

Definately a monthly calendar- so I can get an idea of my month at a glance
Weekly- I'm thinking Mon-Friday on one page;
And for Sat/ Sunday... Gig sheets! So instead of scribbling all the info randomly I'll have a miniversion of my contract right there. then I can just clip them in where they belong.
Also, a contact list for other artists to refer to.
And some lamenated check lists for festivals and parties.

Whatcha think? Any other ideas to add? I'm pretty excited to give this a try!

You should look for my agenda in walmart, I also keep my records of how many : Face Paint, glitter Tattoos, Bling Mask, Hair, etc I did in the gig, for my cost vs. income chart.

I use a Franklin Covey (Binder from Goodwill, Innards from F.C.). Definitely an investment, but comes off as a business expense. I can track EVERYTHING I need in there...has varying templates from a week a page to 2 pages a day, including extra charts for mileage tracking, meals out, etc...

Yikes! That is some serious planning, Anniel. Fingers crossed that I come across one of those babys in my local Goodwill!

I use a Daytimer. Currently I'm using the montly tabbed pages (two pages = one month) and use the hot sheets for each booking's details.

I used to use one page per day or two page per week but didn't need all the space and I prefer to have a whole year or more with me at a time and I couldn't do that with the those configurations.

I have lined pages I can add when I need to make extra notes, but all gigs are on the coloured hot sheets (which are half the size of the pages).

Works for me.
