Do you find that the black starblend comes out as a washed out greyish colour? Is there anyway to make it brighter?
Re: What are star blends and how to use them?
My black is always very bold. You need to load enough on your smoothie blender or makeup.

On vacation, I just met a face painter (new) w/a great idea @ a Festval of Lights , Lake Lanier, GA. We were exchanging ideas end of nite...& I asked her if she used her Star Blends much. She demonstrated how easily you can use those cheap little makeup sponges from the pharmacy that come in a bag & separate into tiny triangles. Wow...I thought they were too dense for FP, but never thought to use 'em for Star Blends. They're so inexpensive, she tosses them after each use. The smoothies have been a hygiene issue for me! Trust me, she's been there all month painting hundreds of people & only uses 1/person! I told her about the forum, which she hadn't discovered yet.
Re: What are star blends and how to use them?
Good question; my guess would be "no" because I think they will crumble. I have dropped one and it crumbled.

Ha! I'm in love with the star blends! I only bought one in red for spiderman! I'm mosy deff buying the other colors! And I used the Concealer sponges, they worked perfect! Here's my new off the top of my head spiderman I did, and instead of white I used silver!!

You can't even tell my lighting sucks! But that star blend is bold and beautiful!!

I am enjoying this thread....but want to make sure: both the star blends and ben nye luminares are used DRY - with smoothie or concealer sponge, no water, right?
And essentially the star blends and luminar are the same in that they are pressed powders. Right?
Why would someone not just get ben nye in a pallet?

You get a lot more product with Starblends and they are definitely less expensive. That being said, the colors seem to be a bit more limited, so some people will get the Starblends in colors they will use frequently as bases to cover large areas (W/B, red/orange/yellow) and the Luminares in colors they will use less frequently. You CAN use them with water (not as much water as FP's but with a damp sponge) but once they are wet, their dry coverage will never be the same again. A friend borrowed my white Starblend when we did makeup for my daughter's musical and accidentally spilled some water on it. I did have to take a deep breath and contain my anger - it was an accident and she is my friend, but I was pretty bummed that it will never be the same again!
I am doing a shopping run today and will have to get some cosmetic wedges to try with it!

Did some painting at a picnic in the park today. Tried my first starblend and loved it. (Please ignore the linework. Mom and Dad were in a hurry to get him to lunch and I messed up --need to learn to ignore onlookers and focus)

Gosh! I wish I had known about the starblends before I did my first festival yesterday. I had a few kids who did not like the wet paint on their eyes and kept squiggling and I had to stop a few times and talk to them. I will have to add this to my set!

Definitely should look into starblends, everyone makes them sound like an absolute must have!
