And essentially the star blends and luminar are the same in that they are pressed powders. Right?
Why would someone not just get ben nye in a pallet?

You get a lot more product with Starblends and they are definitely less expensive. That being said, the colors seem to be a bit more limited, so some people will get the Starblends in colors they will use frequently as bases to cover large areas (W/B, red/orange/yellow) and the Luminares in colors they will use less frequently. You CAN use them with water (not as much water as FP's but with a damp sponge) but once they are wet, their dry coverage will never be the same again. A friend borrowed my white Starblend when we did makeup for my daughter's musical and accidentally spilled some water on it. I did have to take a deep breath and contain my anger - it was an accident and she is my friend, but I was pretty bummed that it will never be the same again!

I am doing a shopping run today and will have to get some cosmetic wedges to try with it!

Did some painting at a picnic in the park today. Tried my first starblend and loved it. (Please ignore the linework. Mom and Dad were in a hurry to get him to lunch and I messed up --need to learn to ignore onlookers and focus)

Gosh! I wish I had known about the starblends before I did my first festival yesterday. I had a few kids who did not like the wet paint on their eyes and kept squiggling and I had to stop a few times and talk to them. I will have to add this to my set!

Thought I'd add this here. This darling little girl asked for a pink kitty. I asked her if she wanted a white kitty with pink ears (what I usually do) but she said she wanted it pink. Turned out SOOO cute. I did a few blossoms with red tipped white.

Starblends save my bacon often.

Hey angela, I was just wondering the same thing this weekend and have been searching the forum in case they'd already been discussed somewhere. Maybe it needs a new thread?

They are called Intense pressed pigment powders, there are three palettes to choose from - Earth, Fire and Wind. They look like good colours - then again everything face painting looks good to me!

Well, I have to credit the little girl. If she didn't love pink so much I probably wouldn't have tried it and the flowers are used so well by Christina Davison in her designs...I just love her.

Just thought I'd share because it's such a cute version of a quick kitty.

I am definitely becoming a Starblend fan. Still haven't tried the purple but next purchase in them is probably going to be at least two brown tones. Thinking Oriental and Light Egyptian. Was looking at Ebony as well but it may be darker than I want.

I think Metina has them all but the browns. I started with Silly Farm special but now it's easier to just add them to an order if I'm ordering TAG.

I don't know what I am doing wrong, but star blends don't seem working really good for me, they are kind translucent, I always have to add paint on top of them.

This Iron Man's eyes are white with a little blue to make them look more "LED like" and then the red is also starblend. The gold is Snaz and the black is Wolfe.

Hulk's green and black shadowing are all starblends. The line work and teeth are wolfe white & wolfe black. He looked MUCH better before he ate his cake! I had one little boy that I did as the hulk in starblends with the same black and white line work. THen he got in the pool with it. The starblends did not rinse off, but the line work did, so he looked like the hulk "in negative." It was kind of funny. I find the white to be very transparent in person, but looks good in pictures. The other colors show up well (especially the red and blue and orange!) Using a smoothie blender really helped compared to other types of sponges and applicators. The makeup puffs you can get at the drug store work well too, but are harder to control in tight spaces.

Luz, some of the colors are better than others. The pink, red, brown, orange and yellow as just about as intense as the paint. Like Kat's dragon/skull mask, it helps if you use one of the above colors mixed with the lighter colors. The white is better if you can layer (go over it again) or use a cosmetic pad to load for skulls and such.

I'm relying on them more and more for boy designs and finding that a LOT of girl designs work too. I live in a dry heat area though. I haven't had to deal with sweat but paint comes right off in those conditions anyway...so at least the powders have a fighting chance if you can get them on.

I used red, white, and blue for a base under fireworks I did using Suzy's Sparkles. I don't generally wear facepaint when I am going to be sweaty, but I gave these a shot. The design lasted all night. I was impressed.

I started off with foundation, but sweated off most of my makeup. The only thing left was the starblends and sparkles.

That's a good design Diane! I really like that one, especially for staying power on long, hot festival days! I have a Freedom Festival do on July 7 and I may try this one Smile

Yay! I really loved the fireworks. The punch barely translates in a photo.

Oh, I laid down the white first, FYI.

Thanks for easy-peasy design idea! I'll be doing one of my 3 county fairs in two weeks and it runs right into the 4th of July... I don't usually paint my face, but I may give that a try with my Starblends and Sparkles!!!
