I actually think I'm going to do it.

Post by Painted Dragon on Sat Aug 22, 2009 9:45 am

I came up with a name.

Made a logo.

I made a website.

Ordered some business cards.

Now I just need to find customers..lol.

Anyhow, I wanted to thank you all from all the hints on here, to the format and wording on some of your websites that ispired me to come up with my own. Having not done this, I borrowed some of your wording and answered questsion, because, having not done any offical business yet, I wasn't so sure what to come up with on my own. I am sure it will change to suit my own experience, but it at least gave me a start.

Here is what I came up with. www.the-painted-dragon.com Would love to hear what you all think.

Thank you! I'm a writer too, and the little dragon inspired a story for me. (children's picture book). I've been working on it the past week or so..

Can I ask why only $50.00 per hour - seems a bit low for what you do?

Firstly, I'm just a newbie. Don't feel confident enough to charge more at this point.

Second, the majority of face painting that I see in the area consists of bad cheek art at small events. They seem to have a lot of it, and they charge $1.00. There is also this play center that does some face painting (cheek art, but well done cheek art) and they charge $15.00 on top of the complete party price if you want painting. So people here have that sort of expectation already as far as how much it is worth. I talked to one mom who went to some fair an hour or two away and exclaimed "They were charging $3.00!" a face!" I told her that 3.00 a face was still a very good deal. She was like "Really?" So I want to break people into the idea of it, while I get some practice and feel more confident of it myself.

Haven't gotten any business yet, even with that rate. Later this month I am going to paint at the Library, but that was after volunteering, just so I can hand out some cards and get things moving... hopefully.

On a positive note, whenever I DO do something (like at our church or last spring's school carnival, before I decided to make it a business), people are totally impressed. They have no idea that there are a lot more awesome people than me out there, and that my work is still in baby stages. Ignorance is nice like that at times.

Off topic. Recently, I wrote a story to go with my little dragon logo. It's a rhyming picture book (without illustrations at this point). I've been shopping it around to some agents, but nothing is coming of it yet. In my fantasy world (that being my head) I imagine being able to give the birthday boy/girl an autographed copy of my book at their parties.
