Skill..karma...Magic?
Not sure if this should have gone somewhere else in here...but I wanted to share... I just got a beautiful message from the mom whose belly I painted today. I had no idea what to paint for her, she just told me that she trusts me and to do my thing. Even as they were arriving at my house I had no real clear idea of what I was painting. They are a very simple couple, and by that I mean they have no huge wants or needs, no big hobbies or loves aside from each other, their dogs and their bundle of joy about to arrive. The struggle to conceive wore them down to the quick...this child really is their miracle. I really wanted to be careful not to cause them pain by imagery that would remind them of the pregnancies that they had lost...and every idea I came up with could have been interpreted to be angel babies... I didn't want that meaning to come through..maybe I was too sensitive...but even the picture of a baby sleeping on a moon didn't feel right. Not in this circumstance. I came across a picture of a bulldog...that is the kind they have, and I decided to put the puppy on her belly...and go from there.
Fast forward to the end...we did the puppy, a ball..and the puppy looked lost so I wrote "Waiting for Sadie" Mom and dad loved it and as she was looking at herself in the mirror, she said quietly "It looks like Dixie" I had totally forgotten the story that she had told me last summer that they had to make a very difficult decision to have their beloved dog put down. They struggled and were so upset by what they had to do. I had a moment of panic that I had caused her pain but she told me that no, she did love it.
After they left, I got this message in my email.
"Thank you so much for the belly painting, its so strange how you
picked a picture that looks just like Dixie, its almost like it was a
sign that she's ok with everything that happened and understands why
we had to do what we did. the painting is truly touching and im so
happy we were able to do it.
thank you
xoxox"
Everytime I read that message, I am amazed at the impact that we can have on someone with our art. I'm also reminded of just how often I hear that.."Wow, how did you know?" or "You captured her spirit" or things along those lines. I am believing more and more in 'aura' and maybe karma? There has to be something around people that allows us to choose the perfect colour, design or image for someone. I am not psychic...don't claim to read people or anything like that...so it is very cool and humbling when I/we can touch people so deeply with something as simple as a face or bodypainting.
I posted the picture in Belly Painting if you want to see.
