Need help painting flowers!!!! Any tips!!??

Post by Lady_Frost on Thu Jan 05, 2012 5:57 pm

I'm new to face painting and lately I've been working on Flowers and getting them to look real. I have been working on this for several weeks now and basically at my wits end. I have seen the video Jinny does on roses and I have tried the technique, but for some reason it doesn't work for me. Any other way to do this?

Would help if you'd post a photo of your efforts so we could see the problems. There have been several threads on the subject if you use the search bar on the right.

I feel like such an old timer when I refer someone to the search bar!

I don't know what kind of flowers you're after, but Lisa Joy Young has some great super fast flowers she does by double loading the brush.

I checked the search engine earlier and I guess my computer didn't load the page up right. I will post pics this weekend and show my attempts. BekahCat, I have seen the ones that Lisa makes and I have perfected those. Thanks ^.^

Try this: http://www.tole-expressions.com/tutorials/one_stroke_roses.html
Doesn't include a "U" stroke but hope it helps. Smile

I'll be teaching a floral class at Art of Body Experience next year, so I'll be upping my flowers this year. I did a challenge last year on flowers, but can't seem to find the thread.... I think there was a heated discussion in the middle of it & am hoping it didn't get deleted because of it Sad

Anyway, what I do is google images for paintings of flowers. I'll try pansies, or roses, magnolias, tulips, etc. Whatever you want to work on. Then I'll spend a week or 2 practicing one particular flower till I have it down pretty well, then see how I can incorporate it into a designs.

Here's a few of my flowers

I love Daisies. I think I'm going to try working on those for awhile. Right now I am sooo annoyed with trying to get my roses to look right and hate it with Valentine's coming up. I'll be posting a pic either tonight or tomorrow on my "Roses"

Do a youtube search for Vi from sparkling faces and brkrvail' s challenges for the wonder pallet, they had each did a video on each color combo, and brkravil's(who hhas a terific hello kitty too) has a one stroke rose tutorial that is really good. I had it book marked, but got a new computer, but I will look later.

Hey Rachel!!! Here's my rose step-by-step.

Create the rose shape with paradise dark red.

Draw highlights in with yellow and tap your finger or sponge on the lines while they are still wet to help them from looking too harsh.

Draw in your shadow lines with black.

Use a dry brush and run it across your black paint to pick up some dry pigment. Then use the dry pigment to add shading and make the black line work blend.
