Website Woes

Post by wmeventservices on Fri Jan 06, 2012 12:15 pm

I've had a website for three years. I've just rebuilt it because my web designer didn't help me achieve any rankings and made it difficult to make changes. This is website #3 for me, but now I have the ability to add meta tags and atl tags to my photos all on my own. Do you guys have any examples of what some good tags would be? Also what else should I do to increase my visibility. After 3 years, it's a bit frustrating that I don't event come up at all on a google search.

Also, I wanted something more artistic for my home page. As a parent, would that photo turn you away? I felt it was pg enough, but I'm also a part of the younger generation.

I love the photo, I think it's totally appropriate. But if you're trying to encourage parents and children's parties I'd include a few examples of your children's facepainting...

I'm no expert by any means, but I think the photos on your home page should be your best work AND relevant to your target audience(s).

So maybe having multiple photos would be best, to show the kind of face painting you offer for children?

I personally do mostly children's birthdays, so I try to keep my site really colourful and bright. It feels like the colour of your website and your image choice says that your main audience is adults... which is fine if that's your target audience! Smile

As for meta tags, all I can really suggest is to make sure you have your city/country/area names in there, and variations on the word "face painting". I put stuff like "facepainter", "face painter", "facepainting", "face painting", "face art", "entertaining", "entertainer", "birthday", "party", "parties"... then a bunch of variations of how my town is spelt. Laughing

Also, it's always nice to have a logo for your business! Using a unique font and colours with a little touch of design can go a long way in helping people remember your business, IMHO.

Lovely website, and gorgeous work! I do agree with the others - it does look more like you're a professional painter with adults as your target audience and participants.

Make the "About" page into the home page. Be sure to add a title, and decription in the meta tags. Your key words should be the words you want to find you if smeone types them into a browser- they should appear in real discrete, non-repeating english text on the page as well, as many times as reasoably possible.

Ideally- facepaint, facepainter, face, paint, painter, your city, entertainment, entertainer, party, body, bodypaint. Would be among the key words you might optimize for

It's a nice picture of you, but I'd put it on your "about me" page instead of your first pic on the home page. Since you aren't a costumed character, the focus should be on your work and not yourself. By all means, have pictures of yourself on the site, even on the first page, but I'd make the top picture the most beautiful thing you've ever painted on a bright and smiling child. It tells the customer exactly what they want to know as soon as they go to your site.

Lol! Perry, that page used to be my about page and then it was suggested that I turn it into my home page to get rid of the large photo that was originally on my homepage. It was my most beautiful picture, but everyone felt it was too adult. My head is spinning. Here's the photo. I have no idea what to do now! Please help.

Have you registered your business / webpage with google?

I just took a quick look at your website, and I think it's great. I think it easily conveys your skills and your range of services. It's easy to navigate and I like your home page too. It doesn't take long for me to find out where you work and what type of work you do.

IMO, you don't need to change a thing. But remember, with web pages, you will need to update it / freshen it up from time to time.

I like to put a video on my home page and TRY to make a new one once a month... I've been slacking on that though and I really need to push myself to do it. I have pictures of myself all over my website because they are hiring me as a clown... it's more about the character than the other stuff. That being said, I also plaster every nook and cranny with my best face painting pics and balloons to show those aspects of my work as well.

It adds up pretty fast, but google adwords has really boosted my website. Be sure to limit the viewing area for your ads to the area you serve so you aren't paying for clicks from people you'll never get business from.

As to meta tags.... all you have to do is find a page that ranks well in the same industrty and services offered, on their home page right click, then select "view source"... that will show you the html including THEIR meta tags... you can copy and paste them, AND THEN EDIT THEM to personalize for your page/name/services.

That's the easy way.

Note... search engines look for RELEVANCE as well as tags. That is, the page the tags are on must be relevant to the tags. You need text on your home page, that contains the key words in native english sentances for the tags to be effective.
