Case Upgrade

Post by anniel on Sat Jan 07, 2012 11:24 am

Be happy with me! I am so rough with my case, that I regularly have to replace it from the major damage I inflict (always looking for the indestructo one..hehe)

I have upgraded each time since finding the type (gun case) that works for me. I started out with a Goodwill special. One of my teen son's spacey friends stepped on that one & forced my first switch-out. (It was wooden.)

After 6 priors (that each eventually went the way of all flesh) & a small financial investment each time...I now have a super-duper Pelikan! It is 40" long, which is a change from 48" I had--but fits in my trunks ever so much easier & still has wheels!

I had purchased a "gear guarantee/warranty" at Bass-Pro with my 2nd kit, so the switch outs have been painless in store stuff. (The returns manager and I are on a first-name basis). He told me I no longer need the guarantee/receipt with the Pelikan, they'll take care of me in-store if there are any issues.
(That being said, I could NEVER have seen my using this case to begin with...it was way out of what I would have invested, but in increments, over the years...well, thanks Jesus!)

Thought maybe this idea could help somebody else somehow.
Wink

I too would love to see a photo.
Do you have legs attached and work from it like a table? Or do you bring along a table and set the case on top?

I really like the idea. It is like the 'artist on the go' setup but maybe more affordable and possibly more functional (especially if legs are attached).
It seems like it would be more efficient to have it this way so all you have to do is wheel it in, open it up and get your water ready. Setup/take down time would be greatly reduced.
Which model # is it? (I was looking at Pelikan rifle cases to try and get an idea of what that would look like and how it would function...

Do you have foam to keep everything in place, or did you put in a metal/magnetic setup?

Do you have a chair that hooks on to your case so you can carry it all together?

Lots of questions... lol... But I'm curious to see how this functions as it might be what I will work towards.

Thanks!

Anniel! Yeah! Pelicans are awesome- That's what you use when you FLY! ... and just happens to be the one that I have too. (except I found mine in a pawn shop for 50 bucks- score right>?) I had my father-in-law attach some plumbing flanges so I can screw in legs. Pretty fly. I posted pictures in a fatMax thread.

THAT'S who it was! Thanks Geekophile! I remembered reading your post about it, wanted to revisit it today but couldn't find it in my searches.
I remembered you saying you would have changed something. I think, now that I see your post above, that it was the time to set up for the screw-in legs?
How is your paint secured (or is it)?

I always explain that I need a table provided...nothing special, just table as I can toss it across a small one since it is all self contained. (I hate carrying more than I have to.) I carry an ez-up chair in a shoulder bag...which also fits my fold up step stool & sponges.

Love it!

Do you have a photo of your current set up? Your avatar is hard to really see, and I know that your new case is a bit shorter.

What do you do if you are somewhere (outdoors, etc.) that doesn't have a table? Do you just bring your own?
