Website question

Post by Kat's FacesForFun on Sun Jan 08, 2012 1:50 am

Hey everyone!

Getting more serious about a website (FINALLY). I've been using a blog for years, but I'm stepping it up in 2012!! I have my website up, but I wanted to add a slideshow to the front page. What do you guys use to create your awesome slideshows? I think it would really add a lot to my site.

I love the look of your website, it's easy to navigate and kid friendly! Sorry, I can't help you with the slideshow but I do love what you have!

I've stuck with blogger because I know how to use it since I have done for years.

Lovely website and.... can I pleasssssssseeeeee add the little yellow truck to my " have to practise" books???
I'm in love with it!
I've made a slideshow on my website with Photobucket.
Works fine for me. Only a pity you can't watch them on Ipad, because Apple doesn't want flash programms...

I used a different one than photobucket for a thread on here where someone wanted to see my roses but can't remember the name of the site. I would like to do a slideshow on our site but my partner doesn't want one because it slows down loading time.

Love your website! Love the tiger (amazing!), dumptruck & Kitty cat face on the main page!!! Soooooo cool!!! & love the clown character! super fun!

I can't help with the slideshow but my partner does website design but is away @ the moment but will call him tonight and see if he has any more suggestions on what you could use.

Also on the face painting page I just noticed a little error...nothing major.. just in the last sentence where it says Simple I think it should be simply... please ignore this if I'm wrong! (Just wanting to help Smile )

BTW I love the family pic on the about Katrina page...it's so sweet.

Nice, clean website! My only advice on your photo gallery is to paint all the designs you currently have displayed on your own face, on different faces. My website consultant said that it makes it look more like I have real clients, and not so much that I paint my own face, because I haven't painted anyone else. She was right! I used a slide show from godaddy's website tonight program, making sure that you never see more than one photo of me at a time, and that most of them are full coverage, so hopefully, random customers won't notice me, so much as my art.

I think a slide show would be wonderful, but so many people today will immediately pull out a smart phone and google you- slide shows won't work so well and they will get frustrated waiting for it to load. A lot of web designers are moving away from flash. Just something to think about- I haven't seen your site- I can't find a link Smile

Thanks so much for the compliments everyone!! It was about time!!

You are SO right Lollyjean!! Thank you for catching that! Fixing.. aaaaaaand... done!

The yellow truck is totally not mine. It's out of the "pick your nose" book and was also featured on fabatv along with the penguin. I LOOOOOVE it. SO easy. Go for it!

Diane... I TOTALLY agree!! It's on my "to do" list for sure. It's hard to get good clean pictures at actual gigs, but I have some guinea pigs lined up!

Ainslie... my link is on my profile under my avatar, right? That's a really good point about a slide show potentially slowing down my website. No bueno!! Food for thought.

I would make a video file of a slideshow and put it on youtube so that it can be viewed on all mobile devices. Don't know what kind of computer you have, so I don't know what program to suggest, but I'd use iMovie on mine. iMovie makes really easy slideshow videos.

For contests here, I use photobucket because mobile doesn't matter so much, but I get A LOT of hits to my website from mobile devices, so you don't want to leave them out.

I like your website, my only prob with it is that sometimes it's tricky to hit the 'gallery' button - it seems to try to avoid my cursor Smile

My web host provider has a slideshow as part of the basic set-up in my picture gallery (webs.com). so I can't help with that. Just a comment re slideshows, sometimes, if that's all there is on a website, it can be annoying because the pictures flit by so fast that you can't get a good look at what was done (although I guess it would cut down on those who copy and paste other peoples' shots.)

I really like it without the slideshow. My website builder (weebly) offers a slideshow or you can do a flickr or youtube. I wouldn't put it on the front page, I would put it on the gallery. I like Flickr as I can update that quickly and easily and just include my tag and it is automatic, I took mine off though as I didn't think it really helped the look. I thought yours was great without it though, very clean and nice images.

Very nice pictures !
I also love the pink and green hair, want the saaaaaaaaame Laughing !

Concerning the site, I built mine with Wordpress, and I love it, because you have thousands of thousands of templates and plugins (if you are self-hosted). Among them, many tools for displaying pictures, such as slideshows.

Wordpress is supposed to be used for blogs, but it so evolutive that you can build anything in it (even online shops, I've heard).

I'm not too keen on slideshows, I like to look at thumnail images and if something catches my eye I'll click to see it bigger... I'm still working on doing that for my own website, I know what I want but I just can't make it work!

Thanks for the feedback all!
Lorrin... mine is Weebly too. Maybe I'm just silly and didn't realize I had a tool on there for that!
Helena... I KNOW!!!! It's driving me crazy too!! What it actually does is blink then come back.. so you can click on it. But I think it's off putting for people. Neutral

Pepita... I bought a pink wig, then bought green curly extensions and added them to my wig. I love it too!! I got it for a very good price. Try costumecraze.com.

I really like the youtube suggestion. Won't slow down my website for iphone users. still chewing on whether or not a I want a slideshow.
