painting on cruises

Post by gypsyjanine on Sun Jan 08, 2012 2:14 am

Hi I have just painted on a cruise for Royal carribean through Sixth Star, but as you are only able to take one guest (over 16 yrs old) I was not able to take my 7 year old daughter. I know the other cruise lines in Australia (P&O and princess) use face painters but I am unable to find out who they source them through. I am hoping the other lines have different rules so my whole family can go. If anyone has any info on this can you PLEASE contact me? either on this forum or through my website www.gypsyjanine.com.au

cheers

Gypsy, I'm curious about painting on cruises. I've read and applied with Sixth Star, so I have their info. Do you mind sharing more about your personal experiences?

If you're painting for two hours, do you have control over the intricacy of designs you offer? Full face versus 1/4 face or cheek art? How much would you estimate you spent on used paint? I can guess based on how many faces I can complete in two hours, but it's nice to hear how it went for someone who was there. How were the tips?

I'd love to hear an answer to this question too if anyone knows! I haven't painted on any cruises yet but applied and was accepted to be a painter through Sixth Star about 3-4 years ago. Of course, that was right after having my first baby, so now I'm not really able to take any jobs. Would love to try out another cruise line, at least until my little guys turn 16! I think when I applied you could bring kids under 16 but they couldn't be in your room, and couldn't stay alone, so basically you had to also bring another adult. Now I think you can't bring anyone under 16 no matter where they stay. :-(

I didn't get any tips - but remember this is an Australian cruise and typically we don't tip. From memory they wanted max 5 min faces. I probably did some that took longer and some quicker depending on what was asked for, so it averaged out. I have no idea how much paint I used - probably the same as a usual 2 hour job. for a 10 day trip you are asked to paint 8x 2hour sessions - but I did 4 x 3hour and 1 x 2hour instead as that was what the activities director wanted. hope this helps cheers janine
