A bit of my recent work

Post by TheJamesNapier on Tue Jan 10, 2012 9:45 pm

This was for a local contortionist in Louisville and some of her girls. Not really sure if the rest of the pics are appropriate for this forum!

Thanks, I painted the skull on my hand at a tattoo convention to see if I could do a tattoo style piece. I will be updating my website (thejamesnapier.weebly.com) in the next few days and I will include pictures of the painting session this image was created in.

I wish I would have had an airbrush for this project. She kept sending me example pictures of airbrushed work and I knew that's what she was hoping for. Fortunately, I managed to get around it. After using a kabuki brush to do the full body base color I used sponges to dab on green through a body stocking, then used some gold Halloween hair color from a can to get the contrasting color. I love brush and sponge painting, but after this project I am looking forward to an airbrush more than ever.

Wow! Love the body stocking idea. I was like he is magical with a stencil, lol. Contortionist bend and fold a lot. How well did the paint hold up to it?

After several applications of Ben Nye Sealant (pretty much used the whole bottle) the paint held up great. She went all day starting at 9 am, through a photo shoot, travel to the performance, and the after party with her overall look intact. There was moderate wear on knees, elbows, and under arms but nothing drastic.
