First "Real" job

Post by billiebcc on Thu Jan 12, 2012 12:42 pm

Okay so am doing another benefit where I am volunteering everything I do so I can get more practice, that is coming up in April. Hopefully by then I will have some business cards and more expierence under my belt.

Then my lovely brother, (love him so much) booked us a spot in our po-dunk town's annual festival. He does AWESOME wookworking and figured I would do facepainting. Really he didn't do it without my permission, I'm just freaking out a little. Granted it's not until June, but the fact that anyone would want to pay ME. Well that is a little daunting. I have 5 months. I have 5 months. I have 5 months.

It's true, if you keep practicing, reading this forum, and watching youtube tutorials, you will be amazed how much you can improve in 5 months. My speed was always good, but I feel like I've drastically improved my designs, tear drops and swirls in the past few months JUST by discovering this forum. People are so generous with information, and it really does help you improve.

Definitely make lots of promotional material for the volunteer job! Many other people on the forum include face paint removal instructions on the back of their business card, so they can give out a business card to each person who gets painted without seeming pushy about it. It's brilliant!

After about 10 minutes you will realize that kids love your work no matter what. I thought I was such a good painter when i first started cause the kids were SO excited when I got done. I look back at those pictures and shudder, but I never felt inadequate or insecure while I was there. I had SO much fun. I probably didn't get as much repeat business because it wasn't that impressive, but I loved it. I painted for 13 hours straight for days at a time in my sisters' store and I was about 7 months pregnant. It didn't even phase me because I had so much fun and the day FLEW by. Money doesn't hurt either!

Ok I am having a little panic attack myself. Family friend is having a Memorial Car Show in April for her late husband who suddenly passed away right before Christmas 2010. I am soooo nervous tho. I don't know if I'll be mentally ready by then. Any advice??? pale

hey angela where is the festival so I won't book the same one...and you will be fine...practice practice practice....make sure that when doing events like this you think about insurance..to keep your self covered, and they may ask you for it...not sure some do and some don't..just a thought in our part of the woods...

I love doing car shows...they are alot of fun...they are really laid back the the kids are usually very nice..
make sure to practice some easy cars and number..they all have their favorite number....and I usually just paint the usual stuff...
