Sharing my practice board

Post by Misha on Sat Jan 14, 2012 9:15 am

Thought I'd share my newest creation with the all the other newbies on the forum! I have drawn a face on heavy stock water color paper and covered it with contact paper a few time to seal, thats it! I tried it out last night and it cleaned up with soap and water easily. I plan on using it to help memorize faces by repitition. For some reason my boys don't want butterflies and unicorns painted on them, go figure! Very Happy

For those of you who don't want to draw it, here's a link to Shannon Fennel's (thank you!) full face image she has posted on her resources page. - http://www.shannonfennell.com/FullFace.jpg Just make sure to back the printed image with cardboard before sealing it in contact paper.

Way to go girl! We all start somewhere and learn from awesome people (like Shannon and others on this forum). It's only right to pay it forward and contribute.

I slip my paper face into a plastic sheet protector- that way, if I like the way it looks and want to hang on to it till I can get it on a face, I can just slip the paper face ou,t put it in another plastic sleeve, and keep painting.

I do the same with the plastic sleves the Geekophile uses, and I also use them for display too. I found the copy of the "face" that I use on about.com. I will see if I can convert it to a jpg so that I can post it. I have it as a word doc.

This is a great idea, I've been hunting for a practice head that I can afford but they're all so expensive! This would work temporarily! Thanks for posting!

I'm thinking of trying this for henna. I don't have a laminator, or contact, but I have plenty of plastic sleeves. Thanks

LOL @ Sophie. BTW, nice job on the winged skull on your site. Is that from one of the free FABA classes?

Yeah it is! I think one of the first live classes with Wiser (awesome!). My website is SO outdated. I think I put a handful of new photos up once in the summer. I know, I know. It's so important. But I just hate uploading the pics there. I wish I had it set up to be a little easier on me. Goal for this year is to actually pay a pro to re-vamp it for me. BUT gotta make some money first!

I've practiced using the sleeves but have now stepped it up to assist me with with the skin tone. Cut brown paper bag or the shipping brown paper that comes in a roll and print your face on it. This really shows how the colors look...when I want to keep my work I paint right on the brown paper.
What I love about it is unbelievably it actually soaks the paint up almost like skin. Try it you'll be surprised and if you shop where they have brown paper bags your materials will all be free. I cut squares to use at Marcela's workshop in the Va. area a while back and many seeing the results were looking to find brown paper bags. I have a head and a practice pad but like my paper better. sunny

At least you have a website. I haven't bothered to put up any pics of faces even on Facebook since the first couple times of painting. LOL @ myself! Course this isn't a paying thing for me (in my mind, i keep saying "YET"). I make a decent living with my regular job as an OR nurse and I'm not burned-out (YET!)
