Tigers - Ears vs. No ears

Post by Flying Laughter on Fri Jan 20, 2012 10:01 am

Thank you everyone for your color suggestions for tigers (my last post)!
I am still working on my tiger and have a new question:

I have noticed in tigers (full, half, masks) that some have ears (on forehead) and some don't. Is there a preference between them? Which does the public like best? Which do children like best? Most requested? Is one "easier" to do? As an artist, do you find one more aesthetically pleasing? I know, lots of questions, right? Smile

I think it's all up to personal preference... and I doubt the kids care either way. It might be interesting to have a poll of who does ears/no-ears though!

I do ears on my half face version so it's more like a mask, but no ears on the full face version so it's more like the child is the tiger. Smile

I think for most animal designs, the ears look really silly on their forehead.... if you're going to do tiger ears, please remember that they are rounded and NOT pointy... sorry, it bugs me to see triangular ears on a tiger.

I agree it's really all up to you but usually i dont add ears because like perry said it does look kind of silly with ears on the forehead lol. but then again some designs do have ears like the panda bear or i add them to the cat and the dog but that really it. nto too much

No ears here. I used to when I first started, but as my work developed, the stripes and lines became more important and the ears just kind of phased out.
