Re: Lets get to know each other!
Ok I'll join in cause I always wonder who's who.. I'm Riana, I'm 32. I have a 2yr old son and I am recently and very unexpectedly a single mum (Mr Right turned out to be Mr Very Very Wrong!! He had everyone fooled though so I don't feel like such a chump.) I disappeared off the forum for a bit while the enormity of it all sunk in but I'm back, and I've just dropped some coin on a lot of paint so watch this space!
I'm living with my parents for a while, which is interesting because I left home and moved overseas as soon as I turned 18.. buuut it is actually quite nice as it means I can still work festivals and parties on weekends and know my son is well cared for. For me It is a business and I am in it to make money doing something that I love.. I love making people smile for a job.
I've done henna since 2004, discovered face painting late in 2010 and have been hooked ever since. BC (before child) I worked in hospitality and remedial massage and other random jobs I picked up in random countries (all honest labour though!!).
I am hoping to retrain in some kind of design related field as I like nice things and I want my son to have a good life like the one I was promised for him when he was conceived!
So yeah. Good to meet you all.. a lot of new faces popped up while I was away

Re: Lets get to know each other!
Hi, I'm Julie. I just turned 31 and live in downtown Portland, Oregon with my boyfriend of nearly 10 years. I'm originally from Miami, FL and he's from Los Angeles, CA - we both ended up in Oregon for school. I graduated with my bachelors in biology and he with his in fine arts & graphic design.
We live with two sane, normal cats, and one completely nutso cat who likes to eat my paintbrushes.
I work more than full-time at a large, non-profit, animal emergency and intensive care hospital as a manager. Veterinary school is my goal. Brent works as a freelance graphic designer with an emphasis on Flash-based website design.
I have been creating special effects type designs since 7th grade and have been fiddling with makeup looks since then. I started legitimately face painting in my free time about 2 years ago and created my company a little more than one year ago. I've had a wonderfully successful first year as a company, and love every minute I can put towards it - which isn't as much as I'd like.
When I'm not working or painting, I spend time volunteering with various animal medical organizations, wildlife rehab (working on becoming licensed), cooking, hiking, camping, traveling, and urban guerrilla gardening.

Re: Lets get to know each other!
Enjoying reading all of these. Time for me to join in I guess.
I am a 39 yr old wife & mother of 3. 2 boys (18 &14) & a little girl 9yrs. My hubby and I have been married for 21 yrs & still going strong. We were apart the entire 1st year of our marriage because he was in operation desert storm. He was put on alert the day we got married. He is always behind me encouraging me and supporting me in what I do. We are Sunday school and children's church teachers & have traveled a bit for mission work.
I have been in love with art since childhood, drawing anything I could think of. I started face painting about 3 yrs ago but didn't really start getting busy till last year.
My favorite movie is Pride and Prejudice (Watched it 27 times so far, I know I am a geek!) and my favorite singer songwriter is Barry Manilow, my kids are so embarrassed. LOL
I love going to zoo's and amusement parks with my family and am a complete Roller Coaster junkie! My favorite thing to do is going hiking with my husband and kids.

Re: Lets get to know each other!
I too have loved getting to know everyone a little more...This is nice.
So here goes....
I grew up in a small town ,Kawerau, New Zealand ,adopted by two wonderful parents...Had a wonderful childhood,,I loved art, music and drama as a child..I play the organ, but when it came to high school , I was looked down on for wanting to take art,,so I tried to please everyone else and took accounting, economics,,ect,,,,but always felt something was missing...When WAY off the rails as a teen and it very nearly took my life...did the whole nine yards and that took up another 10 years of my life....I remember overdosing non intentionally on E and being really scared that I would die...I was really embarrassed of my life and all I could do was pray..So I did.. I asked God to get me out of this situation and if he did I would give my life to him...2 weeks later I was pregnant to I dont know!? (I know everyones freaking out on me now) But anyhow I just knew within myself that this was it..I knew it was a little boy and I was out of that life style..His name is Hendrick and he is an awesome young man now. And i thank God for him every day. I am now married to an amazing man named Steve and we have two boys Ashton and Levi. I am such a different person now as I writing this I can barely believe that I was that person... I homeschooled all my boys up until a year ago..We really enjoyed our time together and I do miss schooling them but they are doing SO well at school, they have all received amazing awards this year and I feel pleased with he job I've done thus far.....O my gosh I am writing a lot...Excuse me...2am and I cant sleep...
I have a passion for helping people,,esp addictions
I love the outdoors,,adore camping,fishing etc
I love my Husband and just love being good to him...
Face Painting has been part of my healing and has been the first time in many many years that I have allowed myself to be free enough to express myself. I LOVE it..and all of you!
I did dedicate my life to God, painted the little kids boom boom room.. (music and dancing room) must post pics one day.. and I am just so grateful for all the great things he has put in my path..My goal is to bring glory to God through my face and body painting.
My brain is full of ideas and I am still figuring a way to get them out..Love this journey and cant wait to see where 2012 leads..
Signing off before this become a novel! And I just want to Thank Metina and Suzy for this wonderful forum also..Your hardwork is a real blessing to me...Thanks

Re: Lets get to know each other!
Hey Everyone! I've been reading this whole time and have finally gotten around and worked up the guts to officially and in detail introduce myself. My name is Shamika, I'm 25 years old and from St.Thomas, US Virgin Islands. I have a 3 year old son (seen in many of the pics I've posted) and I'm in a practically dying marriage of 4 years. No condolences are in order because I've never experienced the true feeling of marriage thus far. In a nutshell, I'm a married single parent. Enough of that.
I have a Bachelor's of Science in Biology from the University of the Virgin Islands. And I'm a 2 year government employee. It's rather expensive living in the Virgin Islands and the salaries here are really really weak. On top of that all govt employees got a 8% salary cut.
I've always been into music and especially arts&crafts. Whether it be sewing, drawing anime/cartoon characters, and making my own cell phone cases from felt. I really have been looking into an art that I could eventually turn into a small business and help supplement my income. I found that in face painting I can make money and support myself and my son while doing something I really truly enjoy. By the 2nd week in February Mika's Creationz,LLC shall be up and running.
I am so happy that I found this forum. Thank you Metina and Suzy for that. God's willing I look forward to many years on here and pray that my skill in this art continues to grow along with my business.

Re: Lets get to know each other!
Hey guys, thanks for letting me join in as another of the functionally dis-functional!
OK, American, but spent a couple of decades overseas (Puerto Rico, Argentina, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Poland, Denmark, Mexico, Switzerland). (Occupational: the other military--missions.)
Single mother of 12 (wasn't always single...married for 18 years, had 10 kids...went rogue, had a couple more kids, home-schooled them all...and now 13 grand-kids).
Been painting for about 14 years (I know, I should be better by now) twist balloons, run a non-profit for Native Americans, do some food and clothing distribution from home. Live with my three youngest boys (15,18,20), a horse & his goat (left by my daughter when she moved), 2 dogs , 2 cats.
Fell into face-painting by "accident" & have been addicted by the beautiful colors and happy smiles (plus income!!) ever since...oh. and the glitter...
Enticed by the prospect of Heaven...I think it was in "Intra Muros" (by Rebecca Springer) that I read that Heaven has colors our eyes are not capable of
seeing here...Wow!
Life Motto: "At the end of the day, at the end of your life, it all comes down to Love!"
Thank you for encircling me with yours!
P.S: Jody--my oldest son did DS also...

Re: Lets get to know each other!
Dean here, 43.... I have done and do a ton of things. Was a magician, still own an online magic shop and publishing business that does new age, self help and stage magic books. Always been an entertainer. For 15 years did readings in a local restaurant. I also work for a big theme park in orlando owned by a mouse. Was a theatrical makeup artist for a long time as well... took a 15 year break.
I usually have 6 or 7 "Jobs" keeps me from getting bored I suppose.
I have a husband, Richard, and we have been together 8 years. We have MANY fur babies... 4 cats (One VERy old and one kitten) 2 Corgi Dogs, 2 Chinchillas that we watched for someone who never took them back...
Lean more toward new age and general spirituality and have studied many paths in that area as well.
Love this place and appreciate Metina for starting it, and everyone for keeping it going!
