Tins for one strokes?

Post by Flying Laughter on Fri Jan 20, 2012 7:37 pm

Anyone tried small metal tins (like for altoids) for making homemade one strokes?
I found these:

Wondering if anyone had problems with rust?

FYI - I just found out these are magnet friendly (will stick to magnets)

ya but would they rust with the water?? Perhaps water leaking to the bottom and leaving your paint rusty?

The first splits I ever made were in little metal makeup pots and they rusted after a while.

Would these be better then?

They would be better then metal but you want something that will give you a longer swipe. The small square pots are horrible for loading your brush.

Something like these would be good. It will give you a longer swipe with your brush. And you can create long one strokes for brush work...or horizontal cakes for sponge swipes.

Doesn't Metina sell one stroke plastic containers? Not expensive at all if I recall...

I was hoping for removable lids, not hinged.

I would just stay away from metal containers.
Good luck in your search.

Metina has some cheaper than the ones you are looking at on ebay and if she is selling them, you know they are safe and appropriate for face paint. Glitterfly is right about the little square ones. They don't load the brush nearly as well as a longer container.
These look pretty awesome. http://www.facepaintforumshop.com/servlet/the-139/Rainbow-Container%2C-20-grams/Detail

I've been using these but they're hinged- http://www.specialtybottle.com/hingedtincontainersmi.aspx
I love the little plastic ones Metina has, I will have to try those next time I'm feeling like a mad scientist!

Edit: The metal ones I linked are Aluminum. They don't rust.

I would guess that metal would rust after a while... It's a shame, I bet they'd look good...
