We're huge fans of the Gruffalo at our house - he looks GREAT, fantastic! (The only thing my son would point out would be that he needs a black tongue hanging out!)

Love him Very Happy

No, he's not from 'Where the Wild Things Are'... The Gruffalo is from a book called (surprise, surprise) 'The Gruffalo' By Julia Donaldson, illustrated by Axel Scheffler. Just lately it was made into a DVD version. If you google 'The Gruffalo' loads of pics of him will come up.

It's a great book (& the DVD is really good too) - it's more a story about the mouse really, and how he tricks his way out of being eaten by all the other animals in the forest. If you have young children I'd definitely recommend it.

The gruffalo in the DVD has a slightly cleaner & lighter look to the one in the book, I think. I had to sculpt a gruffalo out of chocolate & icing for my son's recent 5th birthday (along with all the other characters) - I found him really tricky character to get looking just right.

...and the 'cake version', LOL Very Happy :

Thank you for all being so kind! Glad you think he looks ok.

Coral3, I did think about the tongue after will have a go. Thanks for posting the book and DVD - The Gruffalo is brilliant so such a great thing to share - as are all Julia Donaldson books.

As for your cake - wowsers! Brilliant. Are you a professional cake decorator? My little girl is 4 in a few weeks and she wants Dumbo so I will be putting my sugar icing skills to the test big time!

We have quite a few Julia Donaldson books too Very Happy The cake gruffalo I based on the book images more than the DVD versions - he's not perfect, but my son was happy. I usually avoid trying to replicate known/licensed characters...I find them very unforgiving - everyone knows what they SHOULD look like, so unless you get them spot on they just look wrong. (Not that kids usually care though to be honest...as long as the cake has a fistfull of candles jammed in it my son is happy!!) Good luck with your Dumbo cake. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific caking questions, I’m happy to help out if I can. - I'm not a pro caker, but I do make cakes a lot, and am pretty obsessive about them.
