Care offer input on the direction this is going?

Post by Anamootoo on Tue Jan 24, 2012 1:11 am

So I have named my business and am trying to create a business card and website. I am working the card and fonts out using Vista but will not be ordering from them or using their graphics.

The business name is Mimicry- The business is Face Art and Balloons- The branding line is something to the effect of: Because every event is cooler(more fun, yada yada) with makeup and props.

The dominant font is Fanfare, the secondary is Benhard Modern. What do you think?

What about the direction the tagline is going? Any feedback with that? I want it to speak to events for children and adults, and convey pretend, imagination, and fun.

Thanks for any help you can offer. Smile

Wow...impressive, can I steal it all --photo, branding line, card--the whole thing?

The only suggestion I might have is to try different colors to compare to the yellow. For some reason it doesn't strike me as the most family-friendly color?--although it is definitely strikingly beautiful! (What about a teal?)

what strikes me is that it isn't real face painting in that picture and someone might not recognize that and expect that it is your work. As much as the photo might not be as artistically taken and photoshopped, a picture of your actual work is more accurate for your image and brand than a computer generated butterfly pasted on a model you've never met.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, guys. The artwork is not mine, of course, and I won't be using it. As I stated, I am just using Vista to play around with fonts. What I am looking for feedback on is the Name, Tagline, and fonts used. The tagline is in the general vicinity of what I want to say but it's not there yet.
The art will be next and I am thinking that I will use an adult male, adult female and a child in a sideways v pattern. Not at that point yet in planning but it will definitely be MY work. Thanks again for any feedback. Smile

Edit: I should have just mentioned that the circled area is the area I am focused on. Nothing else from the card will be used.

Anniel, That card is available on Vista. It belongs to them, not me. I'm sure they would be glad to have you use it. Smile The name and tagline are the only parts that belong to me.

I really like the font for "Mimicry" . Very playful.

I also really like the whole card. The part that you circled is good but I would be careful with the color yellow. With the face on the card it goes really well however if you change the face to something less severe and more colorful the yellow may stop looking good and start looking used car sales.

I like the font. I like the tag line. I would suggest pulling a color from whatever face you do use as the fonts background color.

I think you could find better fonts. Have you tried dafont.com? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe you're trying to capture a sense of whimsy in your logo font. But what I'm seeing is like... 70s style bellbottom pants. If that makes sense! Haha. I would go for something a bit more soft, curly or whispy. Here are a few I thought might fit:

http://www.dafont.com/janda-swirlygirl.font?text=Mimicry
http://www.dafont.com/hff-whirly-whorl.font?text=Mimicry
http://www.dafont.com/sweetly-broken.font?text=Mimicry
http://www.dafont.com/ma-sexy.font?text=Mimicry

I'm not totally sold on the yellow/grey colour scheme... I think adding a bit more colour variation would make it look less... stark. Here's another link for you:
http://www.colourlovers.com/palettes

It's one of my favourite websites for planning out web design palettes. It could give you an idea of some palettes that could better display the fun and warmth of face painting.

I'm also curious about the "props" thing. Are you talking about prosthetics? Or what? I don't consider face painting a "prop", so what exactly are you providing in addition to face painting? Are you referring to the balloon twisting as a "prop"? It almost sounds like you're a STORE, selling props, instead of an artist providing art.

Anyway... that's my two cents! Smile

I assumed the balloons were the props.

I like the look.. as for the tag line I also did a bit of a double-take at the word props. I'm sorry to say, and I'm sure it's just me, but' pretend and props'.. my mind went to a naughty place and I am not talking about the kind of naughty that kids do. Just doesn't read as family fun to me.

I wonder if that would work in your favor if you are interested in getting adult gigs as well as children's parties. I did not go there till you mentioned it but my husband probably would have seen it right away. I went to theater and princess parties myself.

I have that same business card which I use when I am trying to target for adult venues... Mine is in the purple color choice... can't tell you how many girls have picked up the card and wanted me to paint that butterfly on them!

Oops... sorry I didn't read your original post more carefully. Regarding the circled area; I believe my FANTASY FACES is in Fanfare, but not the line below it. I wanted to use all capitals and it looked best in the Fanfare font. I used several different fonts and colors, too.

I'm a little worried about the word "prop" now. For me it suggests something that is wielded for fun, ie. the balloon swords, bracelets, animals... something to enhance effect. Is it just wishful thinking that I may be able to use this word to cover balloon twisting? Any suggestions for alternate verbage?

I chose it because, though I have not started yet, I want to add a photo booth to the face paint set up at Festival/Fairs. Hats, Boas, Tiaras, wands, a life size skeleton, backdrops, ect. A fun play on the traditional photo booth... with props. Smile
