I might just fall in a melty messy heap tomorrow!
LOL Yep. It's Australia day tomorrow. It was 41oC today (i think thats 106F) and going to be the same tomorrow and the next day and so on!! Yep, we're in a heat wave here in Perth. I'm painting for 3 hours in the middle of the day (no air con) and then racing off to another gig (also outside) to paint for about 2 hrs, maybe longer. I don't have any star blends that I've heard (well, read) you all talk about when faced with mad heat. Paint is just going to melt off people! I guess I'll suggest arm paintings. Anyway, wish me luck. Australia day, you will not defeat me!!!!

Oh my!!! Personally, I hate heat. Bless you as you swelter!!! Happy Australia Day and I hope you don't end up in a big messy melted puddle of face paint and glitter!!!

Good luck dear!

Happy Australia day. I cannot imagine those temps. Wowzers. It gets hot here in the most Southern part of Canada in the summer...maybe low 40's but not day after day. Ugh.....deoderant manufacturers must be huge in Australie. ;0)
Re: I might just fall in a melty messy heap tomorrow!
That's crazy heat! Here in the Great White North, it's been around -10 C every day, which isn't even that bad for us...
When I went to Japan the temperatures were in the high 30s and I got an awful heat rash on my face from it!
Maybe bring some glitter tattoo stuff as a back-up? If you do them, that is.

Hey..I'll trade ya. I'll take the heat over the cold any day! We are supposed to get freezing rain here tomorrow. I could use some sunshine!!!!!
Re: I might just fall in a melty messy heap tomorrow!
Oh i hate painting in the heat! lol i feel like its so hard to paint when im sweating and the children are sweating which it makes it so hard to keep the paint on! but then again i hate painting in the cold also

Re: I might just fall in a melty messy heap tomorrow!
So one time, I was face painting in the open air with no shade... I had wonderful swirly patterned sunburn.
I thought it was a dry heat in Australia. Our summers are humid here and it can be real nightmare-ish conditions for face painting. The paint will literally never dry.

Here's hoping for some shade and cool breezes (gentle breezes
) for you!

Thanks everyone.....well, I made it. It actually got to 42oC at the exact time I was racing between gigs! I was paid by the hour for the first one. Was great, painted non stop for the 3 hours I was there, but never had more than 1 or 2 kids waiting. I had a display of 9 Aussie designs to choose from and there was only one I didn't get to do. So next year I'll replace that one with something else and won't have as much prep to do.
The second gig was a flop!! Was my first PPF event. Crap. Stuck it out for just over an hour before I packed it in. Had lots of interest but once they found out they had to pay no one came back : ( . It was at a baseball game, they had poor attendance coz of the weather and lots of water based activities going on. All I heard from parents was, it's too hot, you're going swimming later, etc I was asking $5 for all faces which is what they're apparently used to. So nothing too high. I only painted 3 faces. Anyway, no regrets, all a learning curve, was happy to try it out. Won't be in a rush to go back though. I think parents pay enough to get in, food, drinks etc. They're already too tapped out to pay for face painting as well. Anyway, thanks for your well wishes: )) (yikes, 42oC again tomorrow)

Re: I might just fall in a melty messy heap tomorrow!
congratulations!!! hot days are horrible.
you know I too have been done in by the pay per face around water based activitys... it is a big downer. and parents do get taped out but... being a swimming mum (my kids are part fish) glitter tats are a good back up if you ever find yourself stuck, and also good at a rained out festivals where vendors are not permited to leave untill a certain time etc. (they really, really stink) you don't need a great deal just a few stencils, glue, glitter, alchol swabs. and dose ok at rained out as alot of the rides shut down due to safety, so parents are looking for somthing for the kids
Its just a thought- something to cover the cost of petrol, fees or whatever. although given the heat you are having not the bigger concern right now I bet- LOL.

Re: I might just fall in a melty messy heap tomorrow!
yeah, I've been thinking of getting some tattoos. I got some of pashurs fairy ones when he was here, and only just got around to playing with them last weekend (just on my neighbours daughter and on my niece) they seem fiddly.....but like with all things I guess, i'd get quicker with practise. They do look amazing though!
My niece swam with hers that night and it washed off. I used Ben Nye Prosthetic Adhesive (that's all I had) was that the problem?

Re: I might just fall in a melty messy heap tomorrow!
I don't use anthing but prosaide- only because I know it dosn't have latex in it and my daughter has a latex allegy and it came in a big bottle with ingrediants so I could take it to peadiatrician at the time. but figure they are much the same. when I do it for squad swimmers I break the rules(oh no!!!) and put on two layers of prosaide -let them go tacky. and after glitter is all applied. I take a sponge and press on it - just press the glitter in a bit. I also get them to stay out of the water for about 15 minutes.10 if its hot. they can manage that.
also sunblock disolves the glue. and kids thowing each other rough housing in the pool so to speak will make them wear quick. I don't put sunblock over them havnt had a burnt on fairy/butterfly/dragon on my kids yet. (i amso irrisponsible using them as gunuea pigs for alot of things face paint- LOL) and if the parents are fussy I give them a cotton bud to sort it out -the sun block. I figure the glues are much the same though but pressing it made a big difference.

Thanks Sue, I'll remember all that when next I play with them. My niece can rough house with the best of em, so I'd say it would have got a good beating. Thanks for all the info.
