What does it MEAN??

Post by rthling on Thu Jan 26, 2012 2:43 pm

I have noticed that there are others on this forum, besides myself who use an interesting name, besides the ones our parents gave us.
Whobwhate, I couldn't for the life of me figure out your name until this past Christmas. Tell me if I got it right. That's all I'll say about that.
My screen name is rthling. I pronounce it Earthling. The inspiration of this screen name, which I have used for years, on different forums and in different venues, is my favorite cartoon character, Marvin the Martian. He was always going on about earthlings. Once upon a time, I wanted personalized plates for my car, and sat for hours trying to figure out what I wanted it to say. I couldn't fit earthling on there, so I shortened it to include the phonetic sound of the first letter. Made sense at the time, and stuck with me for. the. rest. of. my. life.

So.
What does your screen name mean?

Earthling? Never occurred to me that's what rthling meant. I thought it was for Ruth Ling or something. But I can never figure out vanity plates either, unless they are like mine - FACEART.

My name is pronounced the way my Great-Grandfather used to say things...
a Car Painter would be carpenter.
Therefore,
I am a fesspenter.
(Um, it means face painter.!)
I do not know what Whobwhate is....Who Be What E?
I DID figure out rthling right away and I was thrilled that I "got" it!
I cannot figure out personalized vanity plates on cars, though.

LOL this is a good thread... I always pronounced it as "rith-ling" in my head.

And 'fess penter'... I thought that was German for "face painter" or something.

Laughing

Mine's just my business name, how boring!

fesspenter, I'm so happy that somebody "got it" with my silly name! How funny, but I always "got" your name, too. I'm glad to know the story behind it.
I confess, I find it fascinating to try and decipher vanity plates...

I know. I'm weird.

Squiggle is what my dad always called me when I was a kid so I use that as my online identity on forums and such. My daughter goes by Squirt since we always called her that when she was younger. I told her we should've named our business Squiggle and Squirt LOL!

Nancy!, I wouldn't exactly classify you as boring, more like enthusiastic about your real name!

RTHLING! Ha!! thank you for explaining that! Marvin the Martian was always my favorite too! I even have scetches and charcoal pictures of him from high school art classes. and whobwhate.... I always pronounced that "whoa-B-wait". But when you asked the question I looked at it and thought. Ohhhh... who-b- what- ee. lol. Great thread!

Great thread!

Love reading the meaning/reason behind the names.

Does Maaike sound just like it looks? (May-ik ?)

I always puzzled over rthling!! Haha!

My sister and I share a unique sense of humour. It's dark, inappropriate, sometimes base, silly, and always plentiful, but never mean. We look at the world through giggle-glasses, always finding stuff to grin at and find joy in. We often have random, impromptu one-word contests to see who can make the other laugh harder (picture laughing so hard that no sound comes out, rocking back and forth, clapping like a moron, possibly with your drink seeping out your nose....by the end, it's THAT kind of laughing). No one quite 'gets it' like she does, and vise-versa.
We are 'nutty', crazy, ridiculous, outrageously full of laughter...Never more so than when we are together. We have our quieter, reflective moments like any good half-introverts, and of course there are sad times too (we are not constantly euphoric fluffy-heads)...but together we are usually found enjoying much mirth and merrymaking. Thank goodness for sisters.

So I am just one happy nut!

Dear 1HappyNut:
I read it out loud, too!
I have never had a nickname before,
It was really tough to make something up.
Shannon Fennell says to just use her name.
Shannon Fennell was taken, so I couldn't use her name for this forum.
