Covering Eyebrows

Post by BekahCat on Tue Jan 31, 2012 5:47 pm

I'm not quite sure where to post this, it's not specifically facepainting...

I've had a few people approach me after seeing my older photographs of sfx makeup, where I've made myself up as 'Betty Boop' or other interesting characters where I've covered my eyebrows in the process of the make up.

For those pictures I used pritt stick glue (Similar to Elmers school glue I think...) to cover my eyebrows by if I'm to be offering this as a service I need something that's FDA compliant/approved...

What can I use to cover eyebrows instead?

Also, for those of you who do sfx make up as one of your services, how do you charge?

Thanks, Bekah

You could use FX wax.

Some of the drag queens I know use glue sticks...but that does not help Very Happy . I read someone using barier spray to keep arm hair down (also hair spray-but you would not want to use that) worth a try if there is nothing else for this, but there has to be. I would check with Mehron.

I do have some FX wax... Never used it to cover eyebrows but it's worth a go. Will it degrade if I use water based face paint on top though?

if I need it to hold up. I stick them down with spirit gum first, then cover with latex, sealer, wax or combination thereof.

If you don't need them so stuck down, or your brows aren't too bushy, traditionally, you just use soap. Take a bar of soap (Not moisturizer bar- like Ivory soap) Wet it and rub it back and forth AGAINST the grain of the brow hair. after a few rubs it will get dryer and sticky, then press down WITh the direction of the hair, and it will be plastered down to your head. You then poweder, or do latex or skin safe silicone over the top.

If going the Spirit Gum Route, get water soluable spirit gum, otherwise you have to use alcohol to get it off.

If you are working on someone, Make sure you have a soft chamois to cover their eyes and hold with one hand, while you do the eye brow- so nothing falls in their eye.

Thanks leaping lizards! I've got a latex allergy and I'm always looking for creative ways to avoid latex...the ivory soap is a GREAT idea!
