Negotiation for a better deal
So I'm a mum with twins here in oz we have the twins plus festival coming up I know the organizer and the budget may as well be 0 as all they can pay is $200 all day I have negotiated a fellow painter to come with me ans we will split the cash. Just to cover costs. Now my question is my hubby wants to take our twins to he festival do you think it is fair to negotiate free entry for my family?

Re: Negotiation for a better deal
I would definitely try to negotiate a free entry deal for your own family.
My husband and children are usually there early with me whilst I am setting up and will often help me while I work.
I don't think I have even been allowed to pay for entry for the rest of my family when working... I guess its one of the jobs perks....

Re: Negotiation for a better deal
Oh most definitely!!! I'm pretty sure they'll let ur kids in for free!
Re: Negotiation for a better deal
Ditto. All carnivals that I've ever worked have included free entry for my hubby and lil one. Some were basic entry fees and some were free food, game, and drink tickets, but EVERY event said 'bring your kids for free!'
Re: Negotiation for a better deal
That's absolutely fair! They might be able to help you set up and control the line as well!
Re: Negotiation for a better deal
I most certainly would ask them for the free entry considering the very generous donation of your time, effort and energy for this event. - thanks for reminding me though i have something similar coming up might have to hit them up for free entry for my family also.

Re: Negotiation for a better deal
So I negotiated a better deal all was fab got more money and free ticket
But had to go higher as woman that was contact was a woman from my day job who has never spoken to me as an equal or communicated with me properly.
So today I get an email from lady at work stateing that they had decided to go with another painter I'm telling you now that no painter would do for amount of peeps expected or amount offered (40 an hour) felt so disappointed as I have personal connections to twins plus as I am a mum of twins and even thought was low paying am feelin very upset also am feeling that there going to now use a volunteer that 1 don't have liabilty insurance 2 use in appropriate paints 3 not be aware of hygiene practices in face painting. ( I know this cause they tried to get me to agree to let her help but I declined because she wouldn't be covered under my liability and I didn't want people thinking that some one who may not be up to standard was part of my company so have sent this email can I as yr opinions have I worded right and do I have a right to be cross
Hello Anne,
I hope you had a lovely weekend, It sure was warm.
I am sorry to bother you with this matter but am left feeling rather confused as to why my services are no longer required for the festival. I feel rather insulted receiving an email stating that it has been decided to use another painter. Whilst I understand that there is a set budget (if that was the problem) communication and negation could have seen our way round this. I run a legitimate company with over heads such as insurance products and constant updateing of my skills. Whilst I do participate in a number of charity events generally my costing are covered and the original belief of 2 painters for $200 would not have covered my costs what with also having to pay second painter. I was also prepared to purchase an entry ticket for my husband and children to be able to enjoy the day. (my twins get a real kick out of knowing there are other twins out there in the world ).
One my biggest frustrations is because I was lead to believe that my company would be working this event I have turned down several other bookings to attend the twins plus event as well a engaging a second painter whom I am sure will still expect to get paid as she has also turned down events.
Can I ask that you call me at your earliest convince as I am a business woman I feel the need to clarify we're I went wrong.
Kind regard

Re: Negotiation for a better deal
It sounds like a good letter to me. I think your day might be better spent attending the event with your twins & just having a fun day. They were not interested a all in giving you the real value of your services as well as your extra painters services. $200 for a full day is unheard of & should never be expected (That's about $10/hr). Were you painting for free or PPF?
On a side note... Paint the family up before you go, have business cards on hands & when people Ooh & Awww about your face painting & ask where to get it done, give them your card

Re: Negotiation for a better deal
He he that's cheeky lol think I may do that !! It would have been 200 that's it.
What pisses me off most is the convo I finally had with president whilst a set up time pack up time and so forth had been arranged they had a final committee meeting apparently other painters had applied so they putti to a vote.
I feel it was unfair should have been first in first served and as I had had prior dibs so to speak shoulda been mine also the fact that I'm e a member of the multiple birth group they should have held more weight being seen to be supporting ther own so to speak.
Her final comment on the phone really threw me for 6 her 6 as she said that in the end the vote was based on experiances and budget well heck I have liabilty and have been in the biz for 10 yrs and I'm telling you now they would not have gotten a painter let alone 2 for 200 if they have one who is an unexperianced volunteer which I have an inkling what is gonna happen the poor person is gonna be slammed will be very interested to see how it goes lol

Re: Negotiation for a better deal
Seriously, i think they were ripping you off from the start anyway expecting 2 of you for that amount of money. It's their loss.
A professional organisation would know how much this stuff costs and would budget appropriately.
I agree, its great to have volunteers, but if they are not experienced there will be a very long line with some very unhappy customers. Not your problem!
