Re: eat, no thank u, EAT!!! ok :x
I had a huge birthday party today... I posted earlier on this thread about it... I wish I could have shown you what they sent me home with; an 8" Italian sausage sandwich smothered w/grilled peppers & onions, a grilled boneless chicken breast, a gigantic BBQ pulled pork sandwich, homemade macaroni & cheese, marinated mushroom, cherry tomatoes & zucchini salad, and some kind of orzo side dish that was delish...
The party was the size of a wedding reception, fully catered, open bar, and a professional photographer was there snapping everyone and everything.
And guess what... the man of the hour was only turning ONE!!!!! That mama sure went to town for her baby!

I don't eat on the job or after, most of the time, I'm off to another gig or home. Plus, although I'm a frosting sIut, I don't need all that refined garbage served at most birthday parties. Plus, eating frosting makes me want more frosting, so it's self defeating. If I just say no, I never crave it....mmmm, frosting....
I usually just say something like, "No thanks!" and then I try to clean up really quickly and get out of there so there's no chance for well-meaning family members to offer. If I have to do a second and third decline, I just mention I have another event to go to, or I eat before I head out to events, "but thank you so very much for your generosity."
My one exception was at a birthday party home catered by an Indian family. We have no decent Indian restaurants in Portland, so the chance to eat homemade Indian food was a unique opportunity not to be missed. In that case, I let them make me a plate to take with - I still wouldn't eat at the party.

I am gluten and lactos intollerant so i generally keep a stash of fresh or dried fruit, puffed rice cakes, rice crackers in my bag (I eat during designated breaks and at the end i munch while packing up - also have something to eat before i go so i 9times out of 10 i dont need my "stash" along with a water bottle or 2 and if they offer me anything i explain that due to the intollerance and they are really good about it, generally if they offer a drink i accept a glass of cold water (depending on if my water bottle is still cold or not) as it can get to 45 degrees cel. here during the day so waterbottles dont stay cold long in this heat.

I will usually take a plate to go, explaining that I have another gig in 1 hour, but making sure they know I'm very thankful for the offer. I always refuse cake. I explain that while as a children's entertainer I am often offered cake 3-4 times every weekend & while I'd love to have some, I just can't for health reasons. But thank you!
I've lost over 40 lbs from turning down cake
& went from a tight size 16 to a size 10 that's getting loose!!
