Free Hand Glitter Tattoo (I don't think I'll ever go back to stencils)

Post by Psalmbook on Mon Feb 06, 2012 2:50 pm

I've let my glitter tattoo kit slide because I'm just not coordinated enough to deal w/ those stencils. They stick, rip, fold & and bend. It's so frustrating.

So.... I put my glue into a henna bottle w/ a fine tip (the type that screw on are best... so they don't pop off). I then draw out a design, let it dry (or dry it w/ a hair dryer on cool). Then glitter it, mica powder it or gild it w/ Mehron Metallic Powders! I'm so happy & have gotten loads of comments!
Here's my 1st 3 tries:

Wow, those metallics (Mehron powders?) really pop!
I wonder how the BN Lumiere's would turn out.

Can't wait to give it a go!

How long does the glue take to dry to clear on it's own before you can start applying the glitter, etc.?

Great! Question for Jantien: did you find somewhere larger bottles of glue, or are you just using the small ones with a brush?

I'm using henna bottles w/ the finest henna tip. I squeeze the design out I draw it w/ the glue. It dries quickly if you keep the lines thin (something I'm learning to do). The lines can't be too fat or it takes forever to dry. I'm thinking a hand held fan might help.
I also discovered this is for adults, not kids. The kids were playing in one of those indoor climbing, tunnel things & it was pealing off. I did say it was a new product & we were all learning, so it went pretty well.

It's just the glue you can get from partyxplosion. just take a bit out of the bottle. And use a synthetic brush!!!

this is my take on a free hand style rose[img][/img][img][/img]and a peacock, the hardest part it trying to see where your disapearing lines should go.

Cat just started selling the kits (or is about to). I have been loving the freehand stuff, kinda like henna but I actually like it more. I always go out with a tattoo and it draws a ton of attention. I'm thinking these will be great for fairs or clubs! Great to offer something no one else in our area does too, so exciting!

I am ordering Cats kit because the tips are much finer than the henna tips for cleaner and thinner lines. Can't wait to get it.

Awesome! Cat Rocks the free hand glitter tattoos!

Great free hand designs Len!

A trick to see where your lines are: Ad a small chip of blue face paint to the glue & mix it up. It'll have a slight blue tint to it & make it easier to see your lines.

I love freehand glitter tattoos, I've been wanting to do henna but I'm paranoid that I won't be able to make it look good and it lasts ages on the client... But I can do some pretty henna style glitter tattoos on my hand! Smile

Re: Free Hand Glitter Tattoo (I don't think I'll ever go back to stencils)

Post by mhr2133 on Wed Feb 08, 2012 7:54 pm

Hi - my first post. I can't do stencil glitter tattoos. I have eyesight issues but I can do the "henna pattern" glitter tattoos and I love them.
First I bought the glue from hennacaravan.com along with a luer lock applicator bottle (listed under applicators) I have the luer lock bent needle applicator tip also listed on the page for $1.60. These work perfectly. I take the henna designs print them out, put down carbon paper, then trace paper , then my design. I trace over the henna design and the carbon paper makes a copy onto the trace paper. Then I alcohol the skin, with the skin wet put down the trace paper with that carbon imprint on it and it leaves an easy design on the skin to follow with my glue. Need to know: immediately after you are done you need to rinse out that bent needle tip. It is too small to let glue dry in it, but the luer lock bottle has a cap to replace it and the glue stores nicely in it.

Sticking a straight pin in the tip between uses will keep the tips from clogging. When your done w/ the tips, stick them on a bottle w/ rubbing alcohol in it & squirt the alcohol through the tip. This works for henna as well as glitter gel (glitter gel is the worst clogger in my option).

It's ok! Signed out too!
Got the same glue I think, it's ok, but a bottle with a tip just like the liquid bling bottle would be so nice!

Here's something quick I did today... I'm really obsessing with the freehand glitter every since I received my bottles and tips! It's really hard drawing on my right arm since I'm right-handed, but I don't think it came out too bad!

Gorgeous looks!

Love the way the mica powders look! (is that with them mixed up or just dry powder form?)

Is there somewhere I can get a freehand kit like Cat's in the US? Need it pretty quick.

Sorry to ask the obvious, but the glue that you use is glitter tattoo glue right?
I love all these examples and totally agree with Linda that this is something awesome for adults.

I used glitter tattoo glue, but I think YBody has a glue that's the perfect consistency for doing free hand work. They sell it in a bottle to fill cones or in individual cones.
