Something fishy about this one?

Post by Fun2Play on Fri Feb 17, 2012 6:46 am

Got an email today, it came from my website (which has a contact form) with an offer for me to teach in Malaysia on the 3/3, all expenses paid.
Tempting as that may be, I don't have a passport, and I already have a gig booked for that weekend, not to mention I am not at that level.

Plus I'm not entirely sure it's for real.... What do you think? Here's a copy:

HELLO,I NEED TO CONFIRM IF YOU WILL BE ABLE TO TEACH FACE PAINTING FOR 4 HOURS AT AN EXHIBITION/SEMINAR IN MALAYSIA ON SATURDAY MARCH 3RD 2012.

YOUR AVAILABILITY WILL DETERMINE FURTHER INFORMATIONS.
YOUR RESPONSE IS REQUIRED URGENTLY.

PLS NOTE;ALL TRAVELLING,ACCOMODATION AND FEEDING EXPENSES SHALL BE TAKING CARE OF BY US.

THANKS.
(that's it)

the contact name is Joyce Mary.

Anyone else got one similar?
I haven't replied yet, fearing a scam. What do you think?
I may reply, I think if it was for real it deserves a reply, but I won't be going.

Your thoughts?

Given the way it's typed, I think it's a scam as well. I'd be wary of an offer that came from Malaysia unless it was from someone credible, like a teaching artist who travels the world (like the Wolfes, Pashur, or Mark Reid).

I would reply, but only to find out exactly what the scam is.... because it HAS to be a scam.... Suspect

Could you ask them to wire transfer $10,000 to you (no cheques, please, as they are usually part of a scam) and then see what happens?

Heck, ask for $100,000!

Or, $927,563.61.

Good idea!

I would steer clear, it would be risky to play along when it seems so obviously a scam...

Don't respond. It is spam/scam. Just report it and delete it.

Thanks... it's nice to know there's always a team of pros here who've heard it all before. I will just delete it. I was thinking of replying to say 'I'm not available', but seems to be little point.... then they'd have my email address and I'd get even more scam spam.
Appreciate you all taking the time to respond.
