All glitter is not equal

Post by Stacia on Thu Feb 23, 2012 9:55 am

When I first ordered my supplies as a newbie I got Mama Clown Glitter in a little jar (white iridescent) and somewhere along the line I decided to try the Amerikan Body Art brand in a poofer, I really don't care for the Amerikan Body art in comparison to the Mama Clown...it just doesn't have the same amount of sparkle to it, and the Mama Clown seems to reflect more colors. I've never ordered Metina's white iridescent glitter, does anyone know how it compares? I'd rather order from Metina but I may be hooked on Mama Clown.

See that's my go to...it reflects colors really well and really works to match any design, the ABA looks like chunky sugar almost, and isn't as bright and reflective. Do you have any from Metina's shop by chance? How does it compare?

I have both and I like both of them. Metina's has more of a blue-green tint sparkles and Mama clown's glitter is warmer, it has more gold in it.

You are right about the "warmer" thing. I had a girl on Tuesday night ask for her whole face to be a giant sunflower.... Baffled at how I could do that with a line waiting behind her, I suggested a sunflower over one eye. As usual, the yellows didn't pop without a white base underneath... and it all looked pretty dreary until...POOF!!!! Mama Clown's White Fairy Dust to the rescue... The girl had a family entourage standing behind me watching... and when I added the Fairy Dust it was like they were watching fireworks with all the "Oooooos" and "Aaaaahhhhhs" I heard!

Thanks Katerra, that's exactly what I needed to know.

Ronnie I LOVE your sunflower! I had a dad at a birthday party request a full face flower with bright colors and LOTS of glitter (he had asked his daughter what he should get and that's what she said)...about half way through it he told me he was a S.W.A.T team member and he was on call, and that he hoped he didn't get a call because he would for sure get made fun of. I ended up making his nose the center of the flower and HUGE one stroke petals all around with a couple of leaves on his temples....I was sure it was going to look horrible but it turned out pretty good, unfortunately he wouldn't let me take a pic.

I've tried glitters for makeup, but the only glitter I have tried for face painting is the Mama Clown. The chunky Fairy Dust is my fav!

Although, FABA tv makes me want to buy all those yummy colors! I'm so bad to knock glitter over though so I'm sure that's a mess waiting to happen! LOL

My fav yellow is Kryolan Smile

I use ABA for everything, but rarely reach for white. My fave go to colors are punk rock pink, mystic--which is a pale iridescent blue, and fairy wing--a pale iridescent green.
I will use the pink over reds, pinks, and oranges, the blue over most anything. Same with the green. I think the iridescence picks up and enhances whatever the base color is.

I got a free Mama Clown silver rainbow glitter at Christmas and it's gorgeous! The rainbow gold is nice, too!

I also have pink, blue, and yellow, but don't use those much at all.

I only use the Mama Clown fairy dust... I tried having more colours once and the wasted time along with the horrible colour combinations of kids insisting on this or that or multiple colours of glitter was so annoying I gave them all away. White fairy dust it is.... it matches everything.

I have about 10 different white glitters... no idea of what the brands are but I've got

red irridescent
blue irridescent
green irridescent
blue-red irridescent
red-green irridescent
holographic (sort of rainbow colours)
irridescent (sparkles without specific colour)
A very fine white which doesn't sparkle that much
A large flake white that sort of has a pinkish sparkle
and good old Aurora which is my favourite

That's the loose whites....

I use snazaroo glitters.
red gold dust and the others are gels : white, pink, blue and silver.
I have never tried an other brand but I still like them very much, they are very efficients.
