My first...and second tiger attempts...no laughing!

Post by Lady Jayde on Fri Sep 04, 2009 10:31 am

Okay, here is the tiger that I attempted earlier this week. After my lengthy discussion with SF about my enlistment antics, I have no shame left, so I'll share.
I should add that I was trying to do this along with a video tutorial and that my hands were shaking like crazy. I was good with the blending but the linework threw me for a loop especially the muzzle. I couldn't quite get how she said to do the muzzle and she was moving so fast...

The next pictures are ones of the Pink Tiger that I did on my daughter the next day. I'm kind of proud of the fact that I was able to do it from memory, but I still need work on my lines and symmetry ... I tried to do the dots with my #2 round but well...I think I need to employ the end of my brush instead of the bristles...
My daughter's teeth are actully pretty white, but she got a little carried away with making faces and licked her lips (which she insisted I paint black and not pink), so there was some color transfer...I sure hope Snaz is edible!

I'm thing I'm going to study big cat strips and spots so that I can master this AND I need to shorten the face to a 3/4 face for kids, not to crazy about a bunch of kids walking around with black lips and teeth...unless I use black lipstick on them...hmmm. I'm assuming my linework will just get better with time and familiarity with brushes. Thanks for looking!

I think your line work looks EXCELLENT for a beginner! And your blending is pretty good too! GOOD WORK!

Thanks guys! I was so amazed at how, despite how long it took to do the first one by tutorial, the 2nd one was A LOT faster...though still too long because my daughter kept inquiring about the colors...she wanted to make sure that I stayed with pink and she had to jump up and look in the wall mirror with almost every line. I was just grateful that she allowed me to paint something that wasn't sickningly female that I went with her whims.

I need more practice but the beautiful thing is that the step by step is now in my head. It must feel great to have a kid ask for a tiger and to be able to whip one up from memory!

Awesome! My first (and Embarassed only) tiger attempt was pink...because I didn't have any orange at the time...I haven't updated my gallery recently but I think that one may be there...Anyway I think it looks great, and will only get better and better! BTW, your daughter is adorable!

Thank! I really want to figure out how to do one with multiple colors but that looks a little tricky, kwim?

She's a cutie, I'll admit it...good gene stock as my husband puts it, lol!
But don't be fooled... there are horns under all that hair! And they are usually out in full force after sundown!

That is excellent!! Yes, there are a few things to work on but you know what they are obviously, and that will come with practise and getting the techniques down pat!! Really cute too!!

And yes, Snaz is safe to eat... if you really want to!

Shocked even after the q-tip crack? Thanks so much for the encouragement Shannon, it really means a lot. My daughter thinks it's so cool that I get to talk to the lady who wrote one of my books, now I'm gonna tell her that you said she's cute as a pink tiger! You've really made my day!

Thanks for the warning for us vegetarians lol. I love how some parents are so wary of face paints when they seem to be safer than a lot of real makeup...
